Northern Texas and Oklahoma were struck by several tornadoes on March 21, 2022, leveling multiple buildings and leaving several people injured. Flights out of the Dallas Fort Worth airport were temporarily suspended after the twisters moved through the area, which has caused a lot of damage. Shocking footage of the tornadoes has also now gone viral, showing just how strong and deadly they are.

On January 16, after winter storms battered Florida, a series of tornadoes also struck the state, destroying at least 65 homes. In December 2021, a massive tornado ripped through Illinois, also hitting and destroying a part of an Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville. Around 100 workers were trapped in the facility as a result, and six were even killed. Due to climate change, weather events have been getting more extreme, with the destruction from such natural phenomena only getting worse each year.

So far, it's unclear what the full extent of the destruction in Texas and Oklahoma is. Photos and videos on social media do however give us an understanding of the scale of the damage. Here's everything we know so far about the results of the deadly twisters.

Tornadoes level school, other buildings

In Jacksboro, the twisters reportedly ripped the roof and wall off Jacksboro High School, which "brought tears to my eyes" according to principal Starla Sanders. No one was believed to be in the school at the time. In Bowie, 30 miles northeast of Jacksboro, multiple people are reportedly trapped in several collapsed structures. There is also a rescue operation currently underway in Elgin, east of Austin, where at least two people are trapped.

Parts of the southern Oklahoma city of Kingston were reportedly "leveled" by a quarter-mile-wide twister, but the full extent of the damage is not yet known. The Texan city of Round Rock, near Austin, was also pretty badly hit, with damage to a restaurant, a bank, and cars in a Home Depot parking lot reported. Overall at least 10 twisters were reported to have hit the region, and warnings have now been issued for Louisiana and Arkansas as well.

Footage goes viral

Footage of the damage and twisters in action has now gone viral on social media, as many users uploaded and shared photos and videos. "UNBELIEVABLE! A red pickup truck gets stuck in the path of the earlier tornado in the Round Rock area, tossed around by the strong winds and rolling atleast a couple of times; before driving away on all-fours as if nothing happened," one person shared. That video has since become something of a meme, with many users re-sharing it and talking about the driver's fearlessness.

"So much for renewable energy in Texas! A tornado just took a bunch of windmills out near me," one person tweeted. One storm chaser tweeted, "Monster tornado just passed north of Taylor Texas," with a video of the tornado. A journalist tweeted, "Video shows heavy damage following tornado in Round Rock, Texas." A fourth person shared, "A semi truck is blown over onto its side sideswiping this storm chaser’s vehicle during high winds in a tornado near Round Rock, TX."
