Who is Darrell Brooks' ex? Woman whom he tried to run over calls Waukesha suspect 'sick'
Darrell Brooks Jr, the man accused to have plowed in his SUV through a parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, November 21, killing 5, has a "sick" past, according to his ex-girlfriend whom he tried to run over earlier this month. Brooks Jr, 39, was taken into custody by law enforcement authorities Sunday after his identification was found in the red SUV responsible for the Waukesha tragedy. Brooks will be charged with five counts of first-degree intentional homicide when he makes a court appearance Tuesday, November 23, law enforcement said.
He has an open arrest warrant dating from 2016 in Nevada for failing to obey sexual offenders laws. In 2006, he was convicted for having consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl, with whom he then fathered a child, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. He has had an open arrest warrant out for him ever since he jumped bail after being arrested for failing to obey sex offender laws. Police had an active warrant for his arrest and believed he was in Wisconsin but did not have confirmation of his whereabouts. Brooks was involved “in a domestic disturbance" mere minutes before the tragic event, Waukesha Chief Daniel Thompson said during a press conference. “No evidence this is a terrorist incident,” Thompson added. “We are confident he acted alone.”

Who is Darrell Brooks' ex-girlfriend?
A former girlfriend of Brooks, who has not been identified due to safety concerns, warned that he has a dark past. She had dated Brooks as a teen and said she was shocked Brooks would be connected to the parade tragedy. “I was devastated, it makes me sick to my stomach,” she told The Daily Beast. “Those poor people, my heart hurts especially for those babies. All I can tell you is that he is obviously sick, and what he’s done is irredeemable."
Brooks also has a heavy criminal history in Wisconsin that spans over 20 years. Brooks recently posted a cash bond in connection to domestic violence charges against his former girlfriend, according to public records. The charges include resisting or obstructing an officer, bail jumping, recklessly endangering safety with domestic-abuse assessments, disorderly conduct with a domestic-abuse assessment, and battery.
The most recent run-in with the law dates back to as recent as November 2, which was an incident of domestic violence. A woman whom Brooks had a child with, told police he intentionally ran her over in his car after a fight. Brooks has pleaded not guilty to those charges. The criminal complaint details that “an officer observed tire tracks on [the woman’s] left pants leg" apart from blood on her face, which forced them to bring her to the hospital.
Brooks is facing felony charges such as recklessly endangering safety and possession of a firearm in another criminal complaint that was filed in July 2020.
