CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: 'Dark Matter' on Apple TV+ narrates the journey of a fictional character, Jasson Dessen (played by Joel Edgerton), who is trapped in an alternate reality and discovers that his alternate version had swapped places with him.
In his mission to return home, several characters play pivotal role with their limited screen time. Though Amanda Lucas (played by Alice Braga) is the one who accompanies him in his multiverse travels, characters like Daniela Dessen (Jennifer Connelly) and Charlie (Oakes Fegley) are his source of motivation.
These supporting characters shape the fate of Jason 1 and Jason 2 in subtle yet important ways throughout the series.
What happened to Charlie Dessen in 'Dark Matter'?
In 'Dark Matter' Episode 6, Jason 2 attempted to bond with Charlie which eventually backfired. During their drive, he bought him an ice cream that contained nuts.
There was no way he could have known Charlie's allergies, contrary to Jason 1 who has always been a doting father.
The allergic reaction landed Charlie in ER. When Daniela rushed to the hospital and blasted at him, he said that he didn't read the label carefully enough.
How Charlie's sickness became the last straw in Jason 2's downfall
This incident with Charlie actually played an important role in the narrative. Daniela was already suspicious of her husband and when he "accidently" fed their son an ice-cream with nuts, she became sure that something was terribly wrong with him.
During this moment, she also saw needle marks on his left arm. This led to her assumption that he was consuming drugs. Eventually, she followed him to the storage facility and found the empty ampoules.
She then visited Ryan Holder to ask what those ampoules were for! And Ryan's involvement led to Jason 2's sinister side resurfacing again.
