The Larnaca flight to Manchester was diverted to Paris early Tuesday morning after the 30-year-old woman disrupted the flight and induced panic among all the passengers aboard, soon after take-off. Shouting "Allahu Akbar," she suggested that she had access to explosives on the aircraft, and went as far as asking the children she was with if they were "ready to die"
According to O'Brien, the situation was rather tense as everyone was "s****g themselves" and no one was doing anything to stop her. He even asked the staff about their lack of action before taking matters into his own hand. Seeing the woman head towards the cockpit for a second time, O'Brien found his opportunity. He told the Mirror that he went ahead alone and "took her to the ground." Once the woman was restrained, the pilot performed an emergency landing at the Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport.
The 35-year-old is the boss of a drainage firm and had previously worked in security during his teens. He was traveling with six members of his family, including his wife and three children between the ages of eight to fourteen. He also claimed to have talked to the woman and questioned her actions. To this, she allegedly replied, "If I didn't there's going to be an explosion and everybody is going to die."
Footage of a chaotic scene is being shared on social media where a woman dressed in a red top with a black cap is being restrained by at least two French police officers. It was reported that the flight was diverted to Paris so that the "disruptive passenger" could be offloaded.
There has been no official statement from Jet2 representatives as of yet.
