SOKOTO, NIGERIA: '90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?' couple Kimberly "Kim" Menzies and Usman "Sojaboy" Umar are ready to take their relationship to the next level, but there appear to be various roadblocks in their way. A lawyer told Kim and Usman how a second wife could ruin their future plans.

In a sneak peek from Sunday night's episode, the couple have a Zoom conversation with an immigration expert and discover that Usman cannot lawfully marry a second wife if he plans to relocate to America. That isn't the only issue in their plan. Usman would also be unable to return to Nigeria as promised to his family. "That's not going to be possible because what's going to happen is, you guys have to get married within 90 days — and then, after the 90 days, you would file the application for your green card," the attorney informs Kim and Usman. "You're not gonna be able to travel unless you get permission to travel," the attorney added.

The attorney continues, "The main purpose is that you are there to be with your wife. You are in so much love with your wife that you can't think of yourself being a day apart from her." Though travel may be possible with Usman's green card, the main impediment to their plans is the United States' anti-polygamy statute. Usman, according to Kim, should be entitled to have a marriage in Nigeria that is not recognized in America. However, the lawyer corrects her, saying, "Even though it's okay to do in other countries, in the United States, it's prohibited. And so, you could lose your green card if it were found that you were polygamist." The pair is rendered speechless, with puzzled expressions on their faces.

In last week's episode, Usman and Kim signed a contract with his family saying Usman will travel home in three months and take a younger bride to Nigeria to have children, something Kim cannot provide due to her age. With this additional piece of information, Kim and Usman are surprised to find that the contract they signed with his family would not be honored if they want to acquire Usman a K-1 Visa. The next stage for Usman and Kim is to apply for a visa, which comes after Usman accepted Kim's proposal, despite the fact that a romantic gesture is not usual in his culture. He made the decision to marry Kim first, even though he met a younger lady who could be his second wife.

Kim and Usman finally got his mother's approval after weeks of trying. The contract was their compromise, with Kim being adamant about enabling Usman to have a second family, so she could be the first wife. It remains to be seen if their accord will withstand the pressures of American law.

Usman and Kim may be on their way to happily ever after on '90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?,' but Usman's intentions to bring in a second wife may jeopardize his ability to obtain a K-1 visa. For several years, the 32-year-old singer has been a fixture in the '90 Day Fiance' cosmos. Season 4 of '90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days' showcased Usman's prior relationship and marriage to 'Babygirl' Lisa Hamme. Kim and Usman appeared in 'Before the 90 Days' Season 5 following his divorce from Lisa, before moving on to 'Happily Ever After' Season 7.

These present stumbling obstacles, however, may not mark the end of '90 Day Fiance' sensations Usman and Kim's marriage. Kim's preparation of a pre-wedding checklist to appease Usman's family demonstrates that she has learnt from her prior relationships and is prepared for whatever challenges the pair may face. The pressure of a second wife in the marriage, a demanding family in Nigeria, a relocation halfway across the world, and legal obstacles to obtaining a green card would be a perfect storm for any pair, but Usman and Kim have overcome similar issues in the past. Their ultimate wedded bliss may not look exactly like they expected, but there's a good chance they'll finish their time on '90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?' by eliminating the question mark.

'90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?' airs on Sundays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
