'Get some therapy': Internet slams 'controlling' girlfriend after dispute with partner over dishwasher
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: A woman faced people’s wrath online after she made her partner wash the dishes despite having a working dishwasher. Explaining the situation, the woman noted that she uses her new dishwasher to store plastic bottles and shakers as she feels it's not good for dishes.
“Long story short I'm a little neurotic and don't think dishwashers are good for dishes. I also don't trust my partner to not put any of my nice kitchen stuff in the dishwasher that should be hand washed while I'm gone,” the woman wrote in a post on Reddit’s sub-section, r/AmItheA**hole. The user said long before they moved in together, her partner clarified that he needs a dishwasher or else he wouldn't do any dishes.

'I'm not sure who is in the wrong'
"My partner said, well before we moved in together, that in our house he wants to be able to use the dishwasher otherwise he won't do any dishes," the woman added. The couple recently moved in together, but the user decided to wash all the dishes with her hand despite having a machine to do so. "So we move in together and I end up using the dishwasher to store shaker bottles and plastic items, and for the past several months have been washing all of his dishes by hand," she further stated in the post.
Washing all dishes by hand has made the girlfriend tired and now she expects her boyfriend’s help but he is still strong in his beliefs. "He points out that he already told me if he can't use the dishwasher he's not doing any dishes, but washing a dish by hand doesn't take long," the woman asserted, adding, "I'm getting frustrated and I'm not sure who is in the wrong." The woman's post has since garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming her for her choice of using the dishwasher as a storage space.
'You are being ridiculous and controlling'
A user sarcastically wrote, "We got a brand new smart dishwasher in November. My husband got mad when I told him that it actually needed some debris from the dishes to work properly. I enrolled him in YouTube University, and now, he won't let me do the dishes... Win?" Someone else noted, "You are being ridiculous and controlling. He told you that he would not hand wash dishes if you are forbidding him to use the dishwasher. Get some therapy. Refusing to use the dishwasher is not normal at all."
Another user added, "YTA - he told you he wouldn't wash dishes if he couldn't use the dishwasher. You made the dishwasher unusable and are now frustrated that he is doing what he said he would do. Also, if you don't trust him to not put your nice stuff in the dishwasher, then only use stuff you are happy being put in the dishwasher...put your nice stuff away so that when you live by yourself again you can use it.
