PARIS, FRANCE: Paris authorities launched a probe on Friday, January 13, after the body of a three-year-old girl was found in the washing machine of her family’s apartment. The French capital's prosecutor’s office said the child was discovered in the apartment in northeast Paris on Thursday night.

Le Parisien reports that the ordeal came to light after the father had dinner with his 37-year-old wife and one of their other children. The parents became worried about the girl's absence at the end of the meal, it added. The entire family asked the neighborhood for their aid and set out to search for her both in the apartment and outside.

According to the outlet, the girl turned three less than a week ago and the tragic discovery was made at around 10.30 pm in the apartment, located in Paris's 20th arrondissement. Reports said the washing machine had not been switched on but its doors shut automatically.

The father immediately called the emergency services for medical assistance after the family had found their daughter. The outlet reported the girl was already in critical condition when rescued. She was pronounced dead after 11.30 pm.

The autopsy has not yet taken place. The door of the washing machine was closed when the family members found her, claimed the girl's 48-year-old father. A special unit for the protection of minors is heading the probe.

MEAWW previously reported that a woman murdered her three children and then killed herself while her husband was out buying a new TV for the family. Victorian Coroner Audrey Jamieson revealed the findings into the murder-suicide carried out by Katica Perinovic, 42, after she fatally stabbed her children Claire, 7, Anna, 5, and Matthew, 3, before killing herself in the north-western Melbourne suburb of Tullamarine in January 2021. The report was revealed after devastated father and husband Tomislav Perinovic gave a heartbreaking impact statement recalling how he came home from shopping to find his entire family slaughtered.

Tomislav called paramedics as soon as he discovered his toddler son in a pool of blood. After emergency responders arrived at the residence, the father went into the rear living room and discovered the bodies of his wife and two other children, before yelling out, "They're all dead." However, Tomislav was handcuffed as soon as the police arrived. A female police officer reportedly yelled at him as he was arrested and grilled in front of his neighbors. The 48-year-old was taken to Broadmeadows Police Station, where he was interrogated by Homicide Squad detectives. Investigators subsequently examined CCTV footage, phone records, Triple-0 calls, and bank records, and interviewed 77 witnesses while holding the father without charge overnight. Police eventually released him and apologized the next day.
