LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY: A Kentucky couple's wedding will be officiated by the actual stuffed animal that served as the inspiration for the 'Cocaine Bear' movie on Monday, March 27 at the Fun Mall Museum in Lexington. Internet users have opposing opinions regarding this, with some refusing to get married without the 'cocaine bear' and others doubting the concept.

The Kentucky For Kentucky store, where the bear is on display, uploaded a post in the celebratory mood for the wedding. They sent out an invitation virtually by writing, "Y'all are cordially invited." The announcement continued, "Cocaine Bear presides over and affirms the union of Alexandra & Amanda on this day: Monday, March the 27th, 12 pm." This will be the first-ever wedding ceremony officiated by cocaine bear, so they invited others to "dress up, join us, and wish the happy couple well" in the caption of the picture.

'It's a nice day for a white wedding'

Griffin VanMeter, co-founder of the museum, emphasizing that this will be cocaine bear's first wedding ceremony said, "As long as you feel that the person marrying you — like Cocaine Bear — has the authority, then that marriage can be binding here in Kentucky," according to Roadside America.

Many Twitter users expressed their conflicted feelings about the cocaine bear officiating the wedding. One individual wrote, "If cocaine bear isn't at my wedding i ain't getting married." Another person who finds this odd wrote, "And no one stopped to question that?"

A third curious person wrote, "How does this happen? I'm desperate to know if you can just like write a letter saying 'can this dead bear preside over my wedding.'" This other person who requests that the bear be let go wrote, "Can people let this bear rest in peace. Poor animal paraded around like some trophy."

Another person wrote, "Proud to be Kentuckian for the first time in my life." This other person wrote, "I think this is the tackiest thing I've seen since Tiger King. Impressive." One person sarcastically wrote, "It's a nice day for a white wedding."

Who is Cocaine Bear?

Pablo Escobear, a real black bear who consumed cocaine, came to be known as the cocaine bear. Escobear died in 1985 from a cocaine overdose after drug trafficker Andrew Thornton threw three duffel bags filled with 88 pounds of the narcotic from a plane over a region near Blairsville, Georgia.

Escobear's skin was later stuffed and circulated to exhibits in Georgia, Tennessee, and Nevada before being used to draw visitors to the bluegrass state, where he has been since 2015. The tale of the cocaine bear acquired new relevance since the R-rated, Elizabeth Banks-directed film of the same name premiered in theatres on February 24.

The film, which is loosely based on actual occurrences, depicts the CGI animal living and developing an addiction to the point that she will kill everyone who stands in her way. It centers on a group of people—locals, tourists, criminals, and police officers—who band together to try to survive the bear's drug-fueled hysteria. The film's global box office earnings exceeded $78 million.
