'City on a Hill' Season 3 didn't have a happy ending for the key players, but it wasn't that bad either as new beginnings are over the horizon. With Corbin Bernsen and Joanne Kelly playing the Drydens, the big bad of the season, the onus was on Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon) and Decourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge) to put an end to the couple's atrocities. Known for raping women by drugging them, Sinclair is eventually arrested and pushed to trial after Rohr's faulty compass starts functioning. Ward may have pushed the case with a win as a certainty, but his boss Guy Dan plays his part in spoiling the righteous win.

As for the female characters, Siobhan's (Lauren E Banks) troubles are far from over after a TV interview about her case nearly gets her killed. Jill Hennessy's Jenny is made aware of Rohr's infidelity by none other than Letitia (Kelly) herself and that effectively ends the relationship between the two. With Season 3 done, we attempt to dissect the ending.

'City on a Hill' Season 3 Episode 8 'Whipping Post' Ending Explained

Taking one storyline at a time, Ward is made interim DA after he successfully takes the case to trial. However, Sinclair has the last laugh when he overdoses on pills and goes into a coma. With the case halted until he's physically and mentally fine to testify, the Dryden case will see an indefinite delay, much to his and Rohr's chagrin. Guy Dan wins the Election and appoints Ward as his successor (interim, as opposed to official) and that ends on a bittersweet note for the Brooklyn man who vows to round up everyone involved in the case.

Jackie sits at Sinclair's bedside and makes a promise that he will drag him through the mud for his crimes. This comes after he and Jenny call their relationship off. The latter has her own demons to fight and finally comes to terms with the person her abusive father is. Meeting her half-brother who lives in a mental health facility serves as an eye-opener for one of the strongest characters of the show and she applies to take legal guardianship of her brother. She moves away from Rohr who also knows about her sleeping with Father Doyle. Siobhan gets threatened after winning her case, only to narrowly survive a death threat.

Quite simply, it's a new direction for all the characters in the upcoming season. Whether Rohr accepts his issues with relationships and tries to make it work with Jenny remains to be seen. There will be a new case that will test Ward's mettle and Siobhan will have her work cut out once she comes to terms with the dangers of the case. It's been a solid season of 'City on a Hill' and there's enough to explore in the upcoming installment.

'City on a Hill' Season 3 is available for streaming on the Showtime app.
