LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chris Rock, 58, said on his brand-new Netflix special, 'Selective Outrage,' which debuted on March 4, that he sometimes "doesn't like his kids" because they were so "rich and spoiled."

This may come as a shock as Rock had once claimed he would "shoot" anyone who harmed his children and even got matching tattoos with his eldest daughter. The 'Grown Ups' actor shares Lola, 20, and Zahra, 18, with his ex-wife, Malaak Compton-Rock, whom he married in 1997 and divorced in 2014.

Becoming a parent was the 'best' thing

Rock acknowledged that he initially had no desire to become a father, but having children was ultimately the "best" thing that had ever happened to him. The 9/11 attacks had a profound effect on him, causing him to change his mind.

Rock seemed every bit the devoted father when he spoke about his daughters as they grew. He once remarked that there were no drawbacks to being a father and that he was "proud to be a dad every day." He also made headlines in 2016 when, at the Oscars, he went around begging other A-Listers to buy his daughter's Girl Scout cookies, which led to her selling more than $65,000 worth of the baked goodies, per the Daily Mail.

Why does Chris Rock 'not like' his children?

Rock was absolutely firm when it came to making sure that his daughters were not given special treatment. This fact was proved when he somehow ensured Lola was expelled from high school after discovering she was drinking on a family trip. Despite his best attempts, his daughters have undoubtedly lived extravagantly, from expensive trips to invitations to exclusive events.

The father-of-two opened up about the challenges of raising children as a millionaire, which was a far cry from his "poor" upbringing. "I love my kids, I love my kids, but I don't like them. I don't like my kids. You know the reason I don't like my kids? Because my kids are rich," he claimed in the Netflix special. "My kids are rich and spoiled. I know some people are like, 'Chris, you're rich.' Yeah, I'm rich. But I identify as poor. My pronouns are 'broke,'" continued the comedian.

How did Chris Rock meet Malaak Compton-Rock?

In 1994, Rock and Malaak met at a gala hosted by Essence magazine. Malaak was employed as a publicist at the time. The two fell in love right away and began dating. They took the plunge in November 1997. "She's changed me. She's really calmed me down and centered my life," Rock told Ebony magazine at that time.

Speaking about how he decided to change his mind about children, Rock told Oprah Magazine in 2002, "The world's falling down, and what have I done with my life?" On June 28, 2002, he and Malaak had Lola. On May 22, 2004, they had Zahra.

During their divorce, Rock admitted to having an extramarital affair with at least three women. As the ex-couple made the decision to part ways, they were in the process of adopting a thrid child, a girl namedNtombi. Malaak adopted Ntombi on her own after they had officially divorced in 2016.
