NBC's 'Chicago Med' is set to return to for season five. Fans were under the impression that the series was canceled following the departure of two fan-favorite characters in the previous season — Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnelly) and Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling). Plot
Set in Chicago, 'Chicago Med' is the third series in Dick Wolf's 'Chicago' franchise. It focuses on the emergency department at the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and on its doctors and nurses as they work to save the lives of patients. It sometimes crosses over with characters from 'Chicago Fire' and 'Chicago P.D'. The premiere episode is titled 'Never Going Back to Normal.'
Cast
Nick Gehlfuss as Dr. Will Halstead
Gehlfuss plays the role of Dr. Will Halstead, a former plastic surgeon and an ED attending physician from Chicago and the younger brother of 'Chicago P.D.' character Detective Jay Halstead. Gehlfuss is known for his role of Robbie Pratt in season four of the Showtime comedy-drama 'Shameless'. He has been on 'Chicago Med' since 2015.
Torrey DeVitto as Dr. Natalie Manning
DeVitto plays the role of Dr. Natalie Manning, a pediatrician from Seattle doing a fellowship in emergency medicine. She is a widowed mother coping with the loss of her husband. DeVitto is known for her role of Melissa Hastings in the ABC Family/Freeform mystery television series 'Pretty Little Liars' and as Dr. Meredith Fell in the fantasy drama 'The Vampire Diaries' and Carrie in 'One Tree Hill'.
Norma Kuhling as Dr. Ava Bekker
Kuhling plays the role of Dr. Ava Bekker from season two. A South African trauma surgeon, she is constantly in conflict with Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) on professional boundaries. She leaves after he turns her down in reconciling their relationship and then suspects her of killing his father. However, according to some reports, Kuhling will be returning in the premiere of season five for a final goodbye.

Dick Wolf
The television producer is best known as the creator and executive producer of the 'Law & Order' franchise. Since 1990, the franchise has included six police/courtroom dramas and four international spinoffs. Wolf also serves as the creator and executive producer of the 'Chicago' franchise, which since 2012 has included four Chicago-based police, courtroom, fire, and medical dramas. He has won numerous awards including an Emmy Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Matt Olmstead is a producer and writer, known for 'Chicago P.D.' and 'Chicago Fire' as well as 'Prison Break'.
