'Chicago Med' Season 5: Dr. Will Halstead might just get a new romantic interest from last week's epic crossover episode

Dr. Will Halstead may have been busy saving lives and finding a cure for the virulent strain of flesh-eating bacteria, but the suave doctor also managed time to reconnect and flirt with the CDC rep, Dr. Andrea Danover, an old classmate of his.

The mega 'One Chicago' annual crossover event last week, spread over three nerve-wracking, intense hours saw the heroes of 'Chicago' battle a huge fire, a strain of flesh-eating bacteria that just wouldn't stop, a terrorist who was responsible for the deaths and infection, and the search against time for the cure.

The last battle was fought by Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) on the frontlines as he acted as the liaison for the hospital with the CDC representative, Dr. Andrea Danover, played by Kathleen Munroe. He even found the culprit trying to destroy the samples of the cure they were working on. His timely remembering of using the sample for microscopic examination meant that the doctors still had a sample to work with, and by the end of the three-hour event, a cure was found.

As mentioned, Will worked with the CDC rep, Dr. Andrea Danover. It turns out, Andrea was an old classmate of Will's from his undergrad days and she even says she used to have a crush on him back then. By the way, things went, it looks like that crush might still be there. Andrea and Will worked well together as if they have been working together for years. Their characters had the kind of chemistry that Will has been lacking with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) this season.

Will and Natalie on 'Chicago Med' (NBC)

At the end of the last season, when Natalie goes to see Will, she is caught in an attempt to kill Will which left her with head trauma. At the beginning of this season, we see that her memory has been affected -- which means that when Phillip Davies (Ian Harding) lies about proposing to her and her accepting, she believes him. Will is suspicious about this, as is Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) and Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) before he left. When he tries to talk to Natalie about it, she accuses him of ruining her happiness.

Natalie doesn't seem convinced herself but for some reason, this otherwise brilliant doctor is believing someone she only recently met and judging by her reactions, her gut is telling her there is something wrong as well.

But for now, Will has to keep his distance from Natalie and what better way than to move on with an old friend. Will and Andrea shared great scenes during the crossover and it would be great to have Kathleen Munroe back as Andrea in future episodes. How cool would it be to hear stories of Will from his college days? Moving on with Andrea would also help keep his mind off of Natalie, and give Natalie the time and space to figure it out on her own. It's clear that it will all come to head one day, but we don't know how long that will take.

'Chicago Med' airs on Wednesday nights on NBC.
