'Chicago Med' Season 5 Episode 6: Natalie Manning may be right but she still gets away with medical assault and fans are not happy

Natalie's actions were forgiven by the end of the episode as Maggie and Sharon supported her through the incident which led to the patient's real illness being diagnosed. However, her actions were far from professional

In last week's episode of 'Chicago Med', a two-year-old boy was brought to the hospital with a nosebleed by his nanny. Dr. Natalie Manning is in charge of treating the boy and his parents soon come in, telling Natalie that they only believe in using natural remedies.

Natalie initially thinks it could be a sinus infection and gets the parents to agree to a blood test. Later, when she thinks it could be pneumonia, she asks them to agree to an x-ray and by now, the parents have lost their faith in Natalie.

The x-ray does not confirm pneumonia and the parents want to discharge their son. However, Natalie locks herself in the room with the child and forcibly administers antibiotics, much to the parents' horror.

In this week's episode, another blood test proved that it wasn't pneumonia, and Natalie, again, goes to do another procedure to scope out the child's lungs. The parents are told a court order was obtained before she treated the son, but when they find out that is not true, they call the police.

Natalie is made to leave the hospital, but not before telling Maggie to do more tests, one of which confirmed that the boy had an autoimmune disease that could end up damaging his organs if left untreated.

Though Natalie's instincts may have been ultimately proved right, it does not excuse her actions or the way she treated the child's parents and fans agree. They feel the show let her off the hook too easily and believe she should still be charged with assault.

One fan tweeted, "So Nat not only didn't get punished for treating the kid without his parents' consent, but everyone supported her and tried to cover it up? And let her keep treating him??? I know we don't follow rules at Med, but c'mon [sic]."

Another fan agreed that the show goes too easy on the doctors for not respecting patients' wishes, tweeting, "I'm getting tired of this show and the actions of the doctors that really should have had them fired. I know it's fiction but STILLLLL #ChicagoMed [sic]."

'Chicago Med' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
