Spoiler alert for Season 8 Fall Finale of 'Chicago Fire'

It has been a couple of weeks since Lt Kelly Severide made the move from Squad 3 in Firehouse 51 to the Office of Fire Investigations (OFI) on 'Chicago Fire', and though his absence at 51 has been disappointing for fans, his work with OFI only makes them proud.

We have also seen his relationship with the fellow firefighter, Stella Kidd flourish. Stella has had her own troubles with being assigned too much to do, and Severide is there to support her throughout, which is a welcome thing on the show.

In last week's episode, Severide opened an old case of a grocery fire and determined that it was an accidental electrical fire and not arson as the earlier investigation had concluded. Severide's work with current colleague Lt Wendy Seger meant that a woman could claim insurance, and therefore rebuild her grocery in a community that would really need it.

Severide and Seger continue this in this week's episode, with the two reopening an old case of a mall fire and comes to realize that the man arrested for the fire in a case of arson might actually be innocent. They find the real culprit, but by the time Severide catches up to them, we reach the end of the episode. This leaves us with a cliffhanger: the culprit confronts Severide, and it looks like Severide is in danger.

What does this mean for Severide? Fans would obviously hope for Severide to survive and having lost Otis in the season premiere, Severide may not be in absolute danger. But of course, this does not mean that he will be okay.

It will be a long winter break, but 'Chicago Fire' will return with more episodes of Season 8 in January 2020, which is when we can find out about what happens with Severide. It may be a long wait, but it could be worth it.

'Chicago Fire' will return to NBC for episodes every Wednesday night on January 8, 2020.
