'Charmed' Season 2 Episode 5 ends with Macy still with the Darklighter leaving Maggie, Mel, and Harry not knowing how to save her

Though they have established that Macy is not in danger, they have to rescue her, but viewers will have to wait till next week to watch that.
PUBLISHED NOV 9, 2019

When Macy got kidnapped by Darklighter Harry in last week's episode, viewers (like us) would have thought that Harry, Mel, and Maggie would be able to rescue her within one episode. However, we hardly got to see Macy in this week's episode -- with just one scene where Harry sees her in his mind-meld and establishes a psychic connection with his dark half.

Meanwhile, Mel and Maggie tried in their own way to reach out to Macy -- and though Madeleine Mantock did not feature much in the episode, the essence of Macy was strewn throughout it. Maggie thinks family is more important than a career for Macy, but Mel believes otherwise. Though the answer to their riddle was different, we couldn't figure out what's more important -- which is the case for many women -- why do they have to choose between career and family when men don't have to?

By the end of the episode, a secret that has been lingering since the season 1 finale was finally acknowledged and even developed further. Harry accepts that he -- and by extension, his Darklighter -- has feelings for Macy and her sisters learn that Macy has feelings for Harry (and with the slightest possibility, dark Harry) too.

Though they have established that Macy is not in danger, they have to rescue her, but viewers will have to wait till next week to watch that. This week's episode focused more on learning about the central characters on the show -- which in turn, would lead us to understand their motivations and how they would go about saving Macy -- rather than moving the plot too quickly.

The episode may have also addressed some of the concerns of fans who felt that the first season was almost superficial for never digging too deep and finishing off stories quickly. Moreover, with the lore behind Whitelighters explained, the reboot has expanded the universe more meaningfully than its predecessor, thus creating a universe of its own.

'Charmed' airs on The CW on Friday nights.
