'Charmed' Season 2 Episode 4: Abigael reveals she's the demon overlord and daughter of Alastair Caine, but what's her long game?

Abigael seems intent on disrupting the patriarchy within the demon world, but at the moment, she will spend some time working alongside the Charmed Ones.
PUBLISHED NOV 2, 2019

In this week's episode of the 'Charmed' reboot — as most fans speculated — Abigael revealed herself to be the demon overlord and Alastair Caine's daughter. She took on the disguise of the demon overlord because as a woman, she wouldn't be taken seriously in the demon world where patriarchy still thrives.

Abigael being Alastair Caine's daughter explains why she wanted Macy dead, but does not necessarily reveal what her long-haul plan is. This week, Abigael reveals that she was shot at by the demon assassin and kidnapped until she found a way to escape.

Macy decides that she will go to the location to track down the demon assassin — who the sisters haven't revealed to Abigael to look like dark Harry. When Harry offers to go with her, Macy tells him he has to work on the Book of Elders.

But, it would be ridiculous for Macy to work alone with Abigael again after the events of last week, so Mel and her satchel full of potions are going along for the ride, but not without cuffing Abigael first so she wouldn't be able to use her demon powers. There, the sisters and Abigael encounter a kyon — a creature that hunts through detecting sound and movement — and though the sisters want to go back and regroup, Abigael moves forward.

Eventually, they find that the demon assassin has been capturing the strongest of different creatures like the kyon, a basilisk, and a griffin to name a few, much like normal Harry has the Charmed Ones.

Though Abigael proved more trustworthy in this week's episode, the sisters still will not trust her and it is probably for good reason. Abigael was quick to reveal she was the demon overlord and Alastair's daughter, so she must have something else up her sleeve.

She did not seem too big of a fan of her father's (or her half-brother, Hunter's), so it cannot just be plain revenge that she is after. She also somehow knew that the Charmed Ones were alive. She revealed that she was the one who killed the witches the Charmed Ones encountered at the Vermont inn in the first episode, as an act of seeking revenge.

Abigael has said that she wants to unite the demon world, but the question is, why would she want to do that? Does she want to complete her father's mission and take on the Source of All Evil? Being both part-witch and part-demon, making her like Macy, Abigael must want to do it, and in effect, possibly resurrect her father. Perhaps she wants the respect from her father she never got but desired all her life.

'Charmed' airs on The CW on Friday nights.
