Charlie Cox portrayed Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in Netflix's show for over three seasons. Much to the disappointment of many fans, the show was canceled in 2018 with Marvel deciding to bring all of its characters in-house to Disney. At the time, many believed the character would return in some fashion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Now, a new leak from 4chan and Twitter may have given us a clue as to when this could happen.

If the leaks and theories are right, Cox will reprise his role as the lawyer but not in a solo film or TV show. Instead, he will make his MCU debut in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. Of course, as with all leaks, it's worth taking this one with a pinch of salt. We have no way to verify its authenticity. But, it is an exciting prospect nonetheless, adding more fuel to the fire of what exactly 'No Way Home' will be about.

Murdock to defend Peter in court

The origin of Cox's return starts with an obscure theory on 4chan. According to the anonymous poster, Cox will reprise his role as Matt Murdock. We've heard rumors of how the third film would see Spider-Man travel through the multiverse, but this theory takes a completely different approach. Instead, the poster says the film will follow the arc of " Peter trying to legally clear his name", with Murdock defending him in court.

That does make sense, given how Far From Home ended with the shocker of Peter's secret identity being made public. There's no way for Marvel to not address or ignore this plot point and it seems like an easy way to bring Murdock into the MCU.

Apart from that, there are a few other interesting tidbits dropped in the theory. The poster says Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina will reprise their roles as Electro and Doctor Octopus respectively, but also adds "no idea if Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield are returning". It would be strange indeed to see the villains but not Maguire and Garfield's versions of Spider-Man. The poster also says Gyllenhall (Mysterio) and Stellan Skarsgard (Erik Selvig) will return, which is something we haven't heard before.

Will Cox return? There is some proof doing the rounds online. Twitter account @spideyupdated noted a casting call for attorneys in Fayetteville, Georgia. The production, titled 'The November Project' issued a call for a courtroom stenographer, videographer and attorney on Facebook. The city is located very close to Atlanta, where 'No Way Home' is filming. This could also be a coincidence, as some sites like ComicBook mentioned that Cox has already filmed his scenes.

The November Project could be another film entirely, especially after Feige revealed that Marvel was calling the No Way Home 'Homecoming 3' internally. Feige told ComicBook "I worked on a movie called Spider-Man 3 many years ago directed by Mr. Sam Raimi. So this clearly, the shorthand of calling it Spider-Man 3 now, it’s fine. We call it Homecoming 3.”

Internet seems sure about Cox's return

The rumors around Cox's MCU debut began to swirl last year and have only gained more steam since. One user tweeted "I mean isn't there major rumours that Charlie Cox is coming back to play Daredevil in Spiderman? They got the Wandavision thing right with Pietro so". Another user tweeted "Calling it that Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is going to be defending Peter Parker (Tom) in a court scene in the new spiderman". Another said, "Charlie cox is back for spiderman 3 "

So will Cox return? It could be possible, but don't bet on it till No Way Home hits theatres on December 17, 2021.
