AUSTIN, TEXAS: A pair of police officers from Austin have taken the internet by storm after they saved a man from a burning truck, moments before the vehicle exploded. However, more than the heroics displayed by the brave cops, people started thirsting over the 'hot' officers.

The cops from Austin Police Department were identified as Chandler Carrera and Eddie Pineda, who received high praise for their brave act of dragging an unconscious man from his Dodge Ram in south Austin on Monday, last week. The emergency arose when the driver suffered a medical emergency while backing into a parking spot - his foot became stuck to the accelerator, causing the tires to continuously spin and set off the blaze, the Austin Fire Department said.

According to police bodycam footage, Pineda, who has been dubbed a hero, was first on the scene as he broke the front window of the Dodge just as flames tore through the engine and the vehicle started getting filled with smoke. He then called Carrera for help and they both put all their strength into getting the man free and then dragging him away from the truck just before it exploded. The man was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center with life-threatening injuries following the incident.

According to the Patch, Police Chief Joseph Chacon commended the officers for their bravery. "Despite the danger, they rushed in and saved a man's life," Chacon said. "These are the guardians of our community. Thank you, officers Pineda and Carrera!" He also tweeted, "I’d also like to recognize Officers Eduardo Pineda and Chandler Carrera, for rescuing a man from a burning vehicle! Great work, everyone. #OneAustinSaferTogether"

Assistant chief of the Austin Police Department, Robin Henderson, tweeted, "Officers Pineda and Carrera received a chief’s coin of recognition for their heroic actions yesterday, in saving a man’s life from the vehicle fire. Please join me in recognizing these two for their quick-thinking and bravery! #OneAustinSaferTogether".

Who are Chandler Carrera and Eddie Pineda?

Following their displays of heroics, both Carrera and Pineda were named Austin PD's employees of the week. Although not much is known about Pineda, it was reported that Carrera was an accomplished football player, turning out for the University of North Alabama Lion's as their first-choice place kicker in the 2017 season, before he joined the police department.

Both Carrera and Pineda tried to play down the fact that they were heroes after appearing on a CNN segment. "It feels good, but we don't consider ourselves heroes," Pineda said. "We're police officers. That's the job. We're here to help people." Pineda added that the rescue was made possible due to "pure training" that had kicked in to help him save the man. "I felt the adrenaline after everything was done," he said.

'Which was hotter, these cops or the fire?'

The Austin Statesman's Instagram page posted photos of Carrera examining the burned wreck of the truck as well as a photogenic picture of the attractive officers walking casually. The snaps soon got a wave of comments from admirers who could not believe how hot the officers were.

"Good work. And those two can save me anytime," one of the commenters said, while another noted, "They look like actors cast in the role of police officers." A third quipped, "I’m about to start a fire." One more commented, "This looks like a screen shot from End of Watch". The next added, "Those are definitely strippers." One more said, "First and foremost i hope that man is okay and YOWZA." A commenter tweeted, "Which was hotter, these cops or the fire?"

Another chimed in with. "Amazing! Finally, a Sunday morning front page I would want to see." A person reacted with, "EVERYBODY got time for THAT." One more wrote, "Please send Officers Carrera and Pineda my way cause I’m about to break the law." A user remarked, "REFUND THE POLICE!" One more commented, "They’re as handsome as they are heroic! Back the blue 🇺🇸." Another quipped, "Damn good looking too js."
