Calls for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to resign have resurfaced on social media after the SCOTUS on Friday, January 7, seemed ready to block some or all of the Biden administration's regulations regarding the increase in vaccinations nationwide.

Thomas was one of the justices in the conservative majority, which currently runs over the highest court in the land, who opposed the doling out of newly proposed mandates amid the ongoing global pandemic. It includes imposing a vaccine mandate for almost all workers at hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical providers receiving federal Medicare and Medicaid funds, and to make vaccine-or-test mandatory for private sector companies that employ 100 or more workers. Although he was not the only one who indicated that the vaccine regulations went too far, he was targetted online as many people brought up the topic of his wife Ginni Thomas endorsing the Capitol rally in Washington demanding that Congress overturn the election on January 6, last year, that ultimately ended up in a riot.

What was Ginni Thomas' role in Capitol riots?

On the morning of January 6, Ginni made a Facebook post saying "GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU FOR STANDING UP or PRAYING" with a link to a live stream of the rally, where former President Donald Trump spoke. She later updated the post to add: "Note: written before the violence in the US Capitol." Her Facebook page was taken down on January 8.

A month later, a Washington Post report claimed that told her husband's former law clerks that she was sorry for a rift that developed among them after her election advocacy. “I owe you all an apology. I have likely imposed on you my lifetime passions,” Thomas, who goes by Ginni, recently wrote to a private listserv called 'Thomas Clerk World', which had email ids of her husband's former court staff from his three decades on the bench. “My passions and beliefs are likely shared with the bulk of you, but certainly not all. And sometimes the smallest matters can divide loved ones for too long. Let’s pledge to not let politics divide THIS family, and learn to speak more gently and knowingly across the divide,” she said in her post to the group.

'RESIGN, 'injustice' Justice Thomas'

However, her apology was not accepted by everyone, as even after a year, people are calling for Clarence's resignation and for his wife to be investigated. Formerly National Finance Chair of Draft Biden 2016 Jon Cooper tweeted, "Ginni Thomas, the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, CHEERED ON and endorsed the January 6 rally that demanded Congress overturn the election. Who thinks Justice Thomas should resign?"

Soon others followed. "#GinniThomas#MustBeInvestigated fire Clarence Thomas NOW! This is egregious," one of them said, while another noted, "Don’t leave out the fundraisers that paid for hotels Ginni Thomas paid for 80 buses Clarence Thomas needs to resign how in the heck the wife of a sitting SUPREME COURT JUSTICE be in bed with the haters of the Constitution that he pledged to uphold lock her up FIRE HIM." A third commented, "Don't forget Clarence Thomas' wife who funded buses to the insurrection!" The next remarked, "He Should RESIGN Effective IMMEDIATELY" One more quipped, "He shouldn't be given the option of resigning. He should be removed from the bench. Kavanaugh as well. Both are at a minimum sexual harassers."

Another added, "I want Ginni and Clarence to be subpoenaed by the Committee as the financial support of this day becomes clearer." One of them wrote, "Yes. RESIGN, 'injustice' Justice Thomas." A commenter tweeted, "This is so disturbing and I don’t know why this is not a bigger story @Scotus aren’t they bound by ethics and conduct unbecoming?" One more commented, "He should recuse himself all things 1/6, DJT SCOTUS cases, anything involving DJT administration. [If he doesn’t resign or get fired]" A person reacted with, "He should resign, and she should go to jail for her part in funding the transportation."
