California man, 26, dies after 40ft horror fall from cliff while on vacation with girlfriend
MAJORCA, SPAIN: A California man has died in Majorca after falling off a 40-foot cliff into the sea. The 26-year-old American apparently hit his head on the rocks instead of landing in the water. The unnamed man had come to Cala Varques in Majorca with his girlfriend before the fatal accident occurred.
The exact circumstances of the fall are unclear and are still under investigation, The Sun reports. However, the National Police believe that the victim misjudged his jump and, instead of landing safely in the water, hit his head on the rocks. The accident reportedly occurred around noon on Saturday, March 25. It was witnessed by the occupants of a sailboat, who rescued the man and notified emergency services. He was then taken back to the beach where paramedics were waiting.

Autopsy is under process
Ambulances, police and maritime rescue rushed to the scene. They tried to revive the man, who had suffered severe head injuries. However, they did not succeed in saving him. A full autopsy is underway. Locals confirm that the tourist site where the accident occurred can be considered a very deceptive danger zone, as the water hides the rocks.
'Miscalculating cliff jump is common'
The tragic incident joins the numerous accidents that have occurred in the area, including last June, when a 17-year-old tourist was injured after jumping into the water from a height of 15 meters. Located in the municipality of Manacor, Cala Varques is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Many tourists and residents use the cliff next to the sea in Cala Varques to jump into the water. "It is a very dangerous jump and it is common for these people to miscalculate the jump and instead of falling into the sea, they crash onto the rocks," says a source.
