'He just would light up whatever he was at'
"Please keep Bryce and his family in your thoughts and prayers as we support and take care of one another in this time of loss," the superintendent wrote as per WMTV. On Saturday counselors were made available to support those in need as the school opened for a few hours.
As per Bangor Daily, Basso was starting defensive back for the school baseball team, and as per Scott Flagg, Brewer's varsity football coach, he "always got along with everyone." "He got ill last year and lost his starting job briefly and never said a word about it," Flagg said.
“When he came back, he worked his way back into it and ended up getting the position back. A lot of kids would complain in that situation, but with him, you knew he would just work and do what he had to do,” Flagg told the media outlet.
'He was liked by everyone'
Basso was also a wide receiver on the football team and in winter he practiced as a wrestler with Bucksport for Brewer's lack of the wrestling team. “He just would light up whatever he was at,” Flagg said before adding “If he showed up to summer practice, the mood was better. If he went to a summer weight lift, everyone was happier. He was liked by everyone.”
'He always brought a sense of joy wherever he was'
Cameron Hughes, a senior teammate described Basso as the "nicest kid." Huges said Basso worked hard and he would put in all the fight and lots of effort in the game and never backed down. "So sad about what happened, the whole football team is really hurting,” he said.
Brewer Teams another senior Evan Nadeau said, "His passing has had a devastating impact on our school." He further said, "Bryce may be gone from the earth, but he has left behind a legacy that I hope other future Witches will follow.” Ryder Goodwin said that “He always brought a sense of joy wherever he was."
