The suspect will be brought to court for his arraignment on Monday at 9.00 am local time and will be entering a plea. Kohberger is expected to plead not guilty to charges. In such a case, the judge will schedule a date for the murder trial. His preliminary hearing scheduled for June 26, 2023, has been canceled. Proceedings of the grand jury remain under seal and are closed events.

Indictment after six months of the brutal murders

Kohberger has been indicted six months after he murdered the students. Moscow police received a report of an "unconscious person" just before noon on November 13, many hours after the victims were found dead inside the house. Police said that responding officers discovered the four students lying lifeless on the second and third floors of the rented Moscow home. The students' bodies showed signs of having attempted to fight back as they were stabbed multiple times.

During the attack between 3.00 am and 4.00, two other roommates were on the bottom floor of their home and survived the attack. Before the authorities were called to the scene, one of the surviving roommates revealed that she came face to face with the murderer.

In connection to the slayings, Kohberger was arrested at the end of December 2022. He was living in Pullman, Washington which was close to Moscow where the murders took place. The suspect was studying at Washington State University at the time and remained on campus for weeks after the killings. He then returned to his home state of Pennsylvania where he was later arrested.
