The 'Full House' actress, Cameron Bure, shared a video of herself dressed in Fourth of July attire with Bruce Springsteen's popular but often misunderstood protest song 'Born in the U.S.A.' playing in the backdrop. In response to this, Hilary Duff's husband Matthew Koma mocked her on TikTok over this weekend.

The 35-year-old Matthew Koma shared a TikTok video clip that said, “Yeah that, the song you’re playing? Yeah, it’s about veterans coming home from Vietnam and being treated like s–t. Yeah, it’s not about the Fourth of July."

In the video, the 46-year-old actress wore a "God Bless America" t-shirt and a baseball cap with "God is Good" inscribed on it. “I mean, c’mon, would you expect anything less from me?" she said in the clip. "Happy Fourth of July!” she exclaimed with excitement.

Although the cheery melody of Springsteen's legendary song might imply otherwise, the song actually has a deeper meaning to it. The 72-year-old Bruce Springsteen spoke in an old TV interview, thinking back on the song's beginnings: "That particular song fell into a certain social context. The country had veered to the right, and the Republicans at the time were basically attempting to co-opt anything American. Born in the U.S.A.’ was a song of rebellion." More recently, Bruce Springsteen discussed how the song communicates sincere uncertainty about American identity in the last episode of the podcast "Renegades: Born in the U.S.A.," which was presented by Barack Obama.

“This is a song about the pain, glory, shame of identity and of place,” the star said in reference to how a hypothetical Vietnam soldier is depicted in the song's lyrics as he returns from the conflict and struggles to reconcile his feelings of patriotism. Springsteen added, “So it’s a complex picture of the country. Our protagonist is someone who has been betrayed by his nation and yet still feels deeply connected to the country that he grew up in." Springsteen also shared his opinions on why the song has been appropriated, which was especially pertinent to Koma's criticism of Cameron Bure's choice to use the song in her TikTok.

“One is because it was so powerful; two is because its imagery was so fundamentally American,” he stated. “But it did demand of you to hold two contradictory ideas in your mind at one time: that you could both be very critical of your nation and very prideful of your nation simultaneously. And that is something that you see argued about to this very day.” Just a few days prior to Koma's post, American dancer JoJo Siwa called Cameron Bure "the rudest celebrity" she had ever encountered.
