Britt Reid was drunk driving when car crashed and injured 2 kids, Internet dubs him 'heartache' for dad Andy Reid
On the night of Thursday, February 4, 2021, Britt Reid, the son of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and also the present linebackers coach for the football team, was involved in a car accident that injured two children, one of whom is battling for life. The more shocking part is that Reid has confessed to be driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
How did the accident happen?
According to a report released by the Kansas City Missouri Police Department (KCPD), Reid was involved in the multicar accident that took place on an on-ramp to Interstate 435 in Kansas City. When a car ran out of gas on the on-ramp, the driver called their relatives for help following which a second car arrived and parked on the on-ramp as well. The second car had a 5-year-old and a 4-year-old child in the back seat. After a while, a third car, which was reportedly being driven by Reid, speeded and struck the left front of the first vehicle and then the rear end of the second vehicle.

The accident injured the two children and left the 5-year-old child with life-threatening injuries. Both the children were quickly rushed to an area hospital by ambulance where the younger child was treated for less critical injuries. The drivers and adult passengers inside the first and second cars were inside the car during the accident but were not injured.
Reid has reportedly acknowledged to the police that he was driving the third car and suffered some injuries himself, reported Kansas City TV station KSHB. A search warrant obtained by the channel reveals that Reid's eyes appeared bloodshot and a police officer smelled "a moderate odor of alcoholic beverages." Reid later admitted to the officer that he had two to three drinks before driving and also took prescription Adderall.
Britt Reid's past charges
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement confirming the accident. "The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid. We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved." - read the public statement.
35-year-old Britt Reid is the linebackers coach for Kansas City Chiefs football team since 2019. He joined the team in 2013 as a defensive assistant coach. He then rose through the ranks, becoming assistant defensive line coach in 2015 and defensive line coach in 2016.
Reid was apparently scheduled to leave for Florida on Saturday for Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the accident has now mandated him to stay back.
Incidentally, this is not the first time Reid has got into trouble with the law. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to DUI as well. The year before that, Reid was sentenced to 8 to 23 months in prison for flashing a gun at a motorist.
Reactions from Twitter
The internet has not held back in reacting to the story condemning Britt Reid for his past and present crimes, and calling him a 'continuing source of heartache' or 'a distraction' for his father, legendary coach Andy Reid.
"#BrittReid has been a continuing source of heartache for his dad #andyreid who repeatedly has tried to help him. Britt Reid was sentenced to eight to 23 months in jail plus five years' probation on gun and drug charges in 2007." wrote one user. "Britt Reid the type of distraction that can derail Andy, Sunday just got tougher #Chiefs," another fan wrote. Others also called for firing him or arresting him. "All that matters in the Britt Reid story is that the kids are ok. Should be done coaching," tweeted one user.

"And for KC LB Coach Britt Reid three days before a Super Bowl your father's team you take adderall and have drinks then drive. SELFISH do your team a favor get help and get out of the league you don't deserve another chance," this user did not mince words.
