The 2020 NFL regular season finally got underway as the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Houston Texans at the Arrowhead Stadium. However, it wasn't just the players hogging the limelight as Chiefs coach, Andy Reid, at 62, stole the glory for a brief bit with his innovative face shield. In addition to the standard-issue cloth cover-up, he also had a face shield hat that had netizens reacting and the memes followed.

"Heard Andy Reid is on a diet so he’s wearing a face shield to stop him from eating burgers on the sidelines. #RedKingdom #Chiefs #AndyReid," read one of the comments on Twitter.

Here's what one of the fans had to say about the game so far and Reid's shield. "Halftime thoughts #Chiefs vs Texans: * I know why the Texans are run heavy - not sure about the Chiefs * Edwards-Helaire got off to a rough start but picked it up * Kelce and Watkins - nuff said * Waiting on Tyreek * KC Run defense needs work * Andy Reid needs a mask cleaner"

"Andy Reid gonna need a defrost setting for that mask come winter," a fan tweeted.

"How was Andy Reid not cast as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic movie? #AndyReid #NFLKickoff" a fan wrote.

With the mask fogging up, there were a few digs taken as well. "From the Super Bowl to the fog bowl for Andy Reid"

"Why does Andy Reid look like tupperwear"

"Andy Reid is me when I walk out of my air-conditioned apartment into the Atlanta humidity and I have sunglasses on. #Foggy" read a tweet.

However, for all the memes and the jokes, fans also remember Reid as a coach who was and still is an absolute powerhouse. After his stint with Philadelphia, he moved to coach the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 and that was the start of a resurrection of a franchise that struggled. He ended their eight-game playoff losing streak and in his seven seasons with the team, they have made four division titles, two AFC championship games, six postseason appearances, one Super Bowl title. It was the franchise's first in 50 years and they have Reid to thank for.
