Brent Hallett: Man killed in Vegas stabbings was an animal lover who called the city his 'second home'
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: The wife of a man killed in a stabbing on the Las Vegas Strip last week wants to ensure her husband's legacy lives on to help animals in need, Fox5Vegas reports. Brent Hallett, 47, was one of two people killed on the Strip on October 6 when a man stabbed eight people.
Brent and Carmelita Hallett were married in a car in July 1999 at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Ponoka, Alberta, Canada. The couple hadn't spent a single day apart since COVID-19, and he referred to his wife as "his Princess." His wife described Las Vegas as their "second home" and Hallett's "favorite place on earth." The couple enjoyed traveling and living in warm climates, and they spent a lot of time in Las Vegas.

The couple had been living in a condo complex near South Point off Las Vegas Boulevard for four months. Brent Hallett was outgoing and enjoyed bringing people together, so much so that he made dozens of friends in their condo complex, according to his wife. They planned to return to Canada on October 20 and wanted to see as much of the Strip as they could.
Fox5 Vegas reported that the couple had gone to the Mirage on October 6 in case they couldn't see it in its current condition. Hallett's wife stated that as they walked down the Strip, they both saw a man running, and Hallett flinched. The incident happened so quickly, and as people tried to help, his last words were "I'm not going to make it," she said. Carmelita also claimed that two men jumped over the barrier and attempted to stop the bleeding, adding she wishes to find them to express her gratitude. She added that she returned to Canada on Sunday and is now with her family.
Brent Hallett had a passion for assisting rabbits, which are frequently abandoned by families who are unable to care for them or their numerous offspring. His legacy would live on in donations to animal welfare, Carmelita said. Global News reported that Carmelita claimed she doesn't require financial aid but encouraged anyone who wants to honor Brent to make a donation to a GoFundMe set up in his memory. As per the report, on behalf of Brent, all funds raised will be given to organizations that support animal welfare and rescue. These funds will go specifically to bunny welfare, because he loved them.
Promoting the cause, Brent's friend wrote on Facebook, "My good friend, Brent Hallett, was one of the unfortunate victims killed during the knife attack on the Las Vegas Boulevard on 6 Oct 2022. His wife, Carmelita, is setting up a Go Fund Me account to accept donations on behalf of Brent - an avid animal lover - with plans to use the funds raised to establish an animal welfare foundation focusing on rabbits. If you care to, please give generously to this charitable cause."
The GoFundMe page says, "Brent had a great soul and loving spirit. He could make friends with anyone. He loved three things above all else: his wife Carmelita, his family and animals."
