'Black Lightning' Season 3 premiere sets up Doctor Lynn Stewart as ASA's most valuable asset in the Markovian conflict

When the Markovians stage an attack on an A.S.A holding facility, Odell puts Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning and his ex-wife Doctor Lynn Stewart on lockdown saying that while Black Lightning is most certainly a valuable asset, Dr. Stewart is actually more important to the A.S.A.

Agent Odell (Bill Duke) made it quite clear the Pierce family has an important role to play in the impending war with Markovia in the finale of 'Black Lightning' Season 2. Now in the third season's premiere, he has made it clear the Pierces aren't just important because of their metahuman abilities but also because of their scientific skill.

When the Markovians stage an attack on an A.S.A holding facility, Odell puts Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning (Cress Williams) and his ex-wife Doctor Lynn Stewart (Christine Adams) in protective custody. He makes it clear that while Black Lightning is most certainly a valuable asset, Dr. Stewart is actually more important to the A.S.A and her safety is of prime concern to the organization.

Thanks to her work with Green Light and the metahuman pod kids, Lynn is one of the foremost experts on metahuman biology. If the Markovians were to capture her and put her to work on building up their army of metas, it could change the tide of the war and ensure a Markovian victory.

The Markovians have already captured Dr. Helga Jace (Jennifer Riker), the only other scientist with as much experience dealing with metas, and are presumably using her to create new metahumans for their army. If the foreign invaders were to capture Lynn and add her expertise to their project as well, there would be no stopping them from becoming the most powerful nation on the planet.

Of course, the A.S.A have their own agenda in the Markovian conflict and they will undoubtedly try to use Lynn and her family for their own purposes. We already know that the United States government has had its own metahuman soldiers for a while with two of them, Commander Carson Williams (Christopher B. Duncan) and the unstable former soldier Cyclotronic/Ned Creegan (Chase Anderson), having made appearances in Season 3's first episode.

With Lynn's help, the A.S.A could easily find a way to create even more metas and control the ones they already have access to, which would undoubtedly mean bad news for Freeland and the Pierce family.

'Black Lightning' Season 3 Episode 2 will air on The CW October 14.
