'Black Lightning' Season 3 Episode 5 sneak peek suggests Tobias Whale may be the key to creating stable metahumans

Lynn Stewart has been trying to figure out how to stabilize the Green Light metas for a while now but now it seems she may have a chance. Unfortunately, the only way to do it is by using the blood of a mysterious test subject, strongly implied to be none other than Tobias Whale.

Since his defeat at the end of 'Black Lightning' Season 2, Tobias Whale (Marvin "Krondon" Jones III) has been a prisoner in the A.S.A's metahuman holding facility known as the Pit. And if that doesn't sound painful enough, he's also been suffering from a unique form of withdrawal because the serum that has maintained his youth over the years is finally wearing off.

Agent Odell (Bill Duke) has been trying to cut a deal with Tobias by any means possible since the very beginning of Season 3, intentionally allowing Tobias to suffer so that he may become more compliant to Odell's demands. So far, we haven't seen what those demands might be but now a sneak peek for 'Black Lightning' Season 3 Episode 5 suggests that Odell may need more than Tobias' cooperation. In fact, it looks like Odell wants his blood, literally.

In the clip, Dr. Lynn Stewart (Christine Adams) tells Odell that she has finally cracked how to stabilize the Green Light metas: by using a protein found in a serum that was a precursor to the metahuman-creating chemicals that the A.S.A unleashed on Freeland. This protein cannot be synthesized and needs to be removed from the body of a human test subject who has already been injected with the serum and as Lynn reveals, only one subject survived the serum's effects.

Now the clip itself doesn't confirm that Tobias is that subject but we do know that the former crime boss used a serum to extend his lifespan and give himself immense strength. Additionally, some of the stills from the episode show Tobias strapped to a bed with Lynn treating him, which could actually be her trying to extract the protein from his body. It's almost ironic, but it looks like Tobias Whale, the single worst individual to ever set foot in Freeland, may actually end up being the one who saves the city's metahumans.

'Black Lightning' Season 3 Episode 5 will air on The CW on November 11.
