Billie R Davis: Hearing postponed in racist attack on 18-year-old Asian Indiana University student
BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA: Billie R Davis, a White woman accused of stabbing an Asian student multiple times in the head was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, January 25, for her bond hearing. However, the latest court records of the Monroe County Circuit Court in Bloomington confirm that it has been canceled with no clarity on whether it has been rescheduled. The suspect who allegedly stabbed an Asian Indiana University student seven times in the head was traveling on a public bus, in an attack that police refer to as ‘unprovoked and racially motivated.’
Davis, who is also called Billie R. Pottorff, is currently held on a $100,000 bail on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and battery by means of a deadly weapon. The reported crime took place on January 11, on a transit bus and an 18-year-old student was stabbed with a folding knife by Davis in the presence of co-passengers, as per the probable cause affidavit filed in the case. It further mentions that the alleged attacker purportedly told investigators that she targeted the student because she believed her to be Chinese national and "made statements that race was a factor in why she stabbed her."

"Davis made a statement that it would be one less person to blow up our county," according to the affidavit. As per video surveillance obtained by the investigators from the bus, Davis is seen allegedly coming close to the victim from behind and looks "to turn for a better position while clutching the knife" before she finally stabs her without prior warning, as per ABC News. "Davis then folds the knife, puts it back in her pocket, and returns to her seated position on the bus. Davis doesn't appear to acknowledge (the victim) after stabbing her or have any other contact," the affidavit reads. It also alleged that the attacker and the victim had “no prior confrontation or negative interactions.”
Authorities said that Davis exited the bus at the next stop. She was followed by a passenger who witnessed the attack and flagged the police at her location. The Asian Culture Center at Indiana University had earlier condemned the attack. "We should not be fearing for our lives on public transportation. Taking the bus should not feel dangerous," the group said in a statement, reports MEAWW. Asians constitute about 10% of the population of Bloomington, a college city southwest of Indianapolis, per the US Census Bureau.
