'Barbie' star Margot Robbie was perhaps not having the greatest of days. The Golden Globes nominated starlet, who is all set to play the titular character, was spotted on sets with what was described as a rather 'forlorn' look, which quickly led to quite the buzz on social media. Warner Bros is bringing the much-awaited adaptation based on the iconic doll to screens.

Not much has been shared by the makers about the possible plot or storyline of the film, which has only piqued the curiosity of the fans. The film releases globally in theatres on July 21, 2023, with Ryan Gosling essaying the character of Ken.

‘Barbie’ Movie: Cast, plot, date and latest buzz about live-action film starring Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie, who plays the lead, was seen looking rather lost after apparently shooting an important scene with Ryan Gosling. At one point during the shoot, the 31-year-old Australian star sat down with her head in her hands.

It is unclear if Robbie was in character or if the perceived sadness came from her role. Vulture has described the movie as “a fish-on-water tale about a doll who’s pushed out of toy society because she’s not perfect enough”.

The images quickly drew fans' attention on the internet. 'Last one for today blessing your timeline with the goddess Margot Robbie #MargotRobbie #HarleyQuinn #SuicideSquad #TheSuicideSquad #birdsofprey #WolfOfWallStreet #ITonya #Barbie #goddess #beautiful," wrote a fan.

"I'm so excited #Barbie #MargotRobbie," another wrote. "#MARGOTROBBIE: come on Barbie let's go party!," a fan said.

"The way men acted when the Joker came out?? This is my Joker, except I will be so much worse. #BarbieMovie #MargotRobbie," one user quipped. "I personally believe that she really is the best choice for Barbie #MargotRobbie," added another.

The upcoming live-action romantic comedy film is based on the iconic doll franchise by Mattel. The film is being helmed by the acclaimed ‘The Little Woman’ filmmaker Greta Gerwig, who has also written the screenplay along with Noah Baumbach. 'Barbie' is backed by production companies LuckyChap Entertainment, Mattel Films, and Heyday Films. It is produced by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Robbie Brenner, and David Heyman.

Besides Robbie and Gosling, the film also stars Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, and Will Ferrell, among others. Will Ferrell is said to be playing the CEO of the toy company that may or may not be Mattel. Fans also think that Emma Mackey might step in to essay the character of Barbie’s younger sister Skipper because of her resemblance to Margot.

Besides, some of the cast members are said to be playing different versions of Barbie and Ken. While plot details have been kept tightly under wraps so far, fans are eagerly awaiting the big-budget multi-starrer from the iconic franchise. However, the adaptation is expected to go beyond the fairytale formulas of animated films of the early 2000s. The entire filming of ‘Barbie’ took place at the Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden, England.
