Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling: A love affair that has grown stronger behind towering walls of privacy

It’s not quite often that Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are seen together, let alone put their affection on display before the camera. In times when celebrities love flaunting every detail about their love lives and also subject themselves to extreme criticism on splitting with their significant other, this couple of Tinseltown has been together for nearly a decade and yet remained so discreet about their relationship that one couldn’t wait to learn what’s cooking in their private life. 

Maybe it wouldn’t have led to a fair discussion had they only dated or embraced each other, a feeling of which often fades amongst the stars with time, unless you’re like Hanx or Hugh Jackson with his beloved wife Deborra-Lee Furness. 

However, Mendes and Gosling, besides being in a long-term relationship, are parents to their two daughters. To date, the actress is highly reluctant to share posts on social media concerning her family and her beau while the father of her children respects her decision and acts in accordance with her preference, thus shying away from cameras and paparazzi as well.

Although they were never spotted together for an interview or cuddling up in an after-party, Mendes and Gosling’s relationship continues to intrigue us, despite the impregnable discretion they strongly hold on to. 

It all began nearly a decade ago when Mendes and Gosling first met on the sets of their 2011 film ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ in NYC and soon sparks began to fly. Remaining low key, they would have their sort of fun by working late into the night and going to Disneyland for a date. Their actions spoke louder than words and it was their public appearance and private family gatherings that gave us a clear picture of their secretive relationship. 

As and when their relationship started to gain more attention, the couple suddenly went off the radar, only to return as parents to their first daughter, Esmeralda Amanda, born on July 2014, putting to rest all the hearsay about them breaking up. 

Gosling turning a father would have broken several hearts as he went to become a Hollywood hunk to a loyal partner and dedicated parent, but Mendes didn’t shy away from giving women tips on what to wear in order to avoid divorce.

Mendes barely appeared on camera after giving birth to her daughter but tried her hand in business using Gosling’s pet pooch as the model for her fashion line.

In December 2015, Gosling was spending his first holiday with daughter Esmeralda, who was just learning to talk. What made his Christmas more special you ask? Mendes keeping him company, whom he chose to call “the person I'm supposed to be with”. 

In April 2016, they had their second daughter, Amada Lee Gosling, whose birth was as discreet as their life together and none knew about it besides close friends and family. 

In the past few years, their relationship has only got stronger and also more comfortable around cameras. While the ‘La La Land’ actor gave Mendes the most romantic shoutout while accepting a Golden Globe for best actor in a musical or comedy film, the couple was seen recreating their first date to Disneyland a few months later, as they strolled about the park hand-in-hand. 

Although not so regular, Mendes and Gosling do attend their fellow-stars parties and make headlines for not being able to take the hands off each other. 

The actress who didn’t ever want to have kids told in an interview, "Ryan Gosling happened. I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have...not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him."

Meanwhile, he describes his relationship with Mendes as, "It sounds so cliché, but I never knew that life could be this fun and this great. It's heaven. It's like walking through a field of flowers every day. I live with angels."

The whole wide world may be well-aware of their romantic life, but Mendes still chooses to keep it to the bare minimum, offering as little insight as possible into her family. 

She recently shared a post explaining the same in which she stated,  “⁣During these times, I’m so confused about what to post so I’m going to post things that move me in hopes that they move you as well. Since I don’t post my about immediate family, and it feels so wrong to post about work, here you go...One of my favorite pieces of art from one of my favorite artist René Magritte. I’ve always loved this one and it feels especially relevant right now. ❤ sending lots of love out there.”
