'Avatar: The Way of Water' storms past 'Titanic' to become the third-highest-grossing movie of all time again

The top spot is also taken by James Cameron with his first 'Avatar' movie

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Avatar: The Way of Water' is still smashing at the box office and setting several new records. And now the movie phenomenon has become the third-highest-grossing movie of all time. 'Avatar: The Way of Water' is the second instalment to the 'Avatar' franchise and James Cameron has already confirmed the franchise would have at least five entries in total.

Directed by James Cameron, 'Avatar: The Way of Water' is a direct sequel to the worldwide phenomenon of 2009's 'Avatar'. 'Avatar: The Way of Water' has a power-packed ensemble, with many castmates reprising their roles as well as newer castmates. The ensemble includes Sam Worthington as Jake, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, Kate Winslet as Ronal, Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Quaritch, Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Joel David Moore as Norm and CCH Pounder as Mo'at.

'Avatar: The Way of Water' sinks 'Titanic'

According to the reports released by Box Office Mojo, the global phenomenon 'Avatar: The Way of Water' officially joined the top 3 clubs of the box office collection by surpassing Cameron's other masterpiece 'Titanic' and claimed the third spot. It is to be noted that 'Titanic' was re-released recently to commemorate the film's 25th anniversary. 'Avatar: The Way of Water' has a Worldwide Lifetime Gross of $2.243 billion. The movie's Domestic Lifetime Gross is $658 million, with a Foreign Lifetime Gross of $1.586 billion. The domestic percentage for this movie is 29.3% and the foreign percentage for this film is 70.7%.

The first place is retained by none other than 'Avatar'. Avatar holds a Worldwide Lifetime Gross of $2,923,706,026, a Domestic Lifetime Gross of $785,221,649 and a Foreign Lifetime Gross of $2,138,484,377. 'Avatar' is followed by 'Avengers: Endgame', with a Worldwide Lifetime Gross of $2,799,439,100, a Domestic Lifetime Gross of $858,373,000 and a Foreign Lifetime Gross of $1,941,066,100. The fourth and fifth places are now held by 'Titanic' and 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' respectively.



 

'Avatar: The Way of Water', More to come

'Avatar: The Way of Water' takes place a decade after the events of the first film. Jake is now living with Neytiri and raises their children. He is still facing the familiar threat from RDA and tries to protect their home. 'Avatar: The Way of Water' introduces a newer region of Pandora, named Metkayina. The people of Metkayina live on reefs and water plays a major role in this film. Cameron has previously confirmed that 'Avatar 3' would be focused on the element of fire. Cameron has already shot the third part of the movie alongside filming 'Avatar: The Way of Water'. The upcoming third part of the franchise is set to be released in December 2024. 



 

Apart from crushing the box office, 'Avatar: The Way of Water' has scored four Oscar nominations including Best Sound, Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Achievement in Production Design.
