MOSCOW, IDAHO: As the investigation into the Idaho student murders continues, social media is debating if cops are looking for the correct car model. Earlier, CCTV footage that was released on Fox News showed a blurry image of a white car passing through a nearby gas station in Idaho. Moscow Police Department believes the car is a Hyundai Elantra and contends the occupants may have crucial information about the tragic killings that took place on November 13.

However, several on the Internet argue that the blurred white car that was captured on a gas station's CCTV might not be the Hyundai Elantra that cops are looking for. One self-professed expert wrote in the comment section of Fox News, “The cops are looking for the wrong model of the car in my somewhat expert opinion. I have been in the automotive service business for 23 years and serviced 275k cars seeing more than my fair share of Hyundais. Furthermore, my 19-year-old daughter has driven a 2011 Elantra for the last 4 years.”

“The picture they keep showing is more in line with a Hyundai Accent or Kia Rio, not an Elantra. The headlight lines to the body/wheel well and read trunk/hatch area are not like an Elantra. I guess I need to call or email the tip line,” the person added. “The highway 8 gas station pic of the blurred white car is not a Hyundai Elantra. Been a mechanic for 40-plus years. Distance from the front bumper to the center line of the front axle is too long for an Elantra,” someone else claimed.

Several social media users took screenshots of the comments and posted them on various social media platforms, igniting a heated debate. Someone tweeted, “OMG!! this comment about the CAR could be a game changer !” “I said that, too. Not a mechanic but can tell you the make and model of most cars on sight. A hobby of mine. I respectfully disagree that the car is a Kia or an accent. Thinking either a ford or a Honda,” another added.

The debates come after it was earlier revealed that to obtain surveillance footage related to the killings, investigators traveled at least 24 miles to the east of Moscow, to the nearby communities of Troy and Kendrick. Authorities requested surveillance footage from dozens of establishments in the town of Moscow, including a liquor store, a coffee shop, a gym, and a gas station.

Investigators obtained gas station surveillance footage that reportedly captured a white vehicle, possibly the Hyundai Elantra that the suspect might have used, passing by at roughly 3.45 am on the day of the murders. Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, were murdered in their rental house close to the university in the early hours of November 13. The case has remained a mystery for over a month, and neither the police nor the FBI has any solid leads, including a motive for the brutal stabbings.
