Anthony Hamilton performs 'Rockstar' with DaBaby at Grammys 2021, fans say he sounds like 'aunt on church choir'
At tonight’s Grammy Awards ceremony, DaBaby performed his massive hit “Rockstar” with fellow up-from-nothing chart conquerer Roddy Ricch – both the artists are praised for having gone from a total-unknown status to full-on rap stardom. The track is nominated for Record of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song.
They did a bombastic, operatic version of the song with lip-syncing backup singers who were dressed in judges’ robes, with skimpy-dressed violinist Ariana Venti showing some flashy energy. Raspy R&B singer Anthony Hamilton, wearing a zoot suit, sang the hook, which people had a lot to say about on social media.

'Got the choir of Sister Act to perform'
People wondered why there wasn't a black choir, for starters., and asked why Hamilton was brought to the stage. "Da baby is not okay lol we couldn’t get a black choir?! You brought Anthony Hamilton up there for what? didn’t even let him get his s**t off," said a tweet. Another said, "Anthony Hamilton sounded like somebody aunt on the church choir on Sunday morning #shewasaalto #GRAMMYs".
"B***h EYE am hollering at Da Baby’s performance. I don’t know if it’s the white women in the back or Anthony Hamilton being thrown in there," said another Twitter user. Another added, "DaBaby brought the background choir from Sister Act to perform with him, Roddy Ricch & Anthony Hamilton on stage". "Seriously, what in the f**k was that DaBaby performance??? Anthony Hamilton had to keep a straight face while those white women played in our face on national television. #GRAMMYs," quipped another.
