'Animal Kingdom' Season 6 Episode 8 Review: It's Pope vs Thompson in intense chapter of lies and deceit
If the first six episodes were about the Cody Boys getting together to do what they are famous for, then the last episode of ‘Animal Kingdom’ Season 6 was more about family and people you love. However, things changed pretty quickly in the latest episode of the TNT series because we finally got to see what we have dying to see since Season ended. The spotlight is finally on Pope (Shawn Hatosy) and what he did to Catherine as Detective Louise Thompson (Moran Atias) is speeding up things to get evidence against Pope.
At first, she did find herself in trouble because Pope has finally got to know that Taylor is working for her, and even though, he has been put there because of a lot of threats, Pope would only want to get the truth out by any means possible. So, he punched this kid to get to know the truth and made a plan for the same. Now, one thing that Season 6 is doing effectively is that it’s moving fast, it’s not clinging to just one story and dragging it to the point where it starts feeling irrelevant. The writers kept on teasing about what was happening in Catherine’s case, and now that they have finally pitted Pope and Thompson against each other, it is fascinating to see how similar they are.

They both are cold and they just want results. Yes, Pope does have some emotions in him, but we know how cold he can be. Thompson’s grit has been phenomenal. Even coming face-to-face with a man like Pope, she didn’t lose her way or get scared, she gave it back to Pope and made us realize that she has the upper hand now. Moran Atias has completed nailing this character and is giving an extraordinary performance.
On the other hand, we are once again worried for Craig and his wife Renn. After last week’s nightmare incident, they are now back together for their baby’s safety. However, Renn and Craig have begun taking drugs again and it seems they are having a lot of fun. Sadly, Craig has forgotten that he was doing so good being sober, but he just lost his way once Renn came back into his life. Well, we are more concerned about Baby Nick because if these two started doing drugs continuously, it’s going to be hard for them to take care of their boy.
Elsewhere, the flashback scenes continue to tell viewers how the relationship between Smurf and Julia got worse. Baz and Julia are in love with each other and as they are young, they are also trying new things in their love story. However, Smurf has never liked that and even in this episode, she accused Julia of ruining everything that she built over the years. With Baz and Julia being inseparable, Smurf is finding it difficult to concentrate purely on her work. Tensions are running high and we might be seeing Julia leaving Smurf for good, but we know how it ended, so it won’t be a happy ending for sure.
All in all, this episode, ‘Revelation’, was intense and made a smooth transition between different stories. Now that, Pope and Thompson have met each other, we might get to see some action between these two as they try to accomplish their missions.
‘Animal Kingdom’ Season 6 returns to TNT for a new episode every Sunday at 9 pm EST.
