The Love Island factor: Amy Schumer slammed for 'dig' at Tom Holland leaving social media
Amy's video came hours after Tom Holland revealed that he has taken a break from social media as it's very detrimental to his mental health
NEW YORK CITY: Amy Schumer is being slammed virtually after she posted a funny parody Instagram video that made fun of people who avoid social media for their mental health. Additionally, she joked sarcastically that watching 'Love Island' in her 40s was improving her physical and emotional welfare and that she wanted to post more on Instagram.
While she was merely having fun, her message came just hours after actor Tom Holland, 26, decided and revealed himself that he had left the platform due to his own mental health. The video was posted on Sunday, August 14, which made viewers feel personally attacked.
No-harm Amy's post amused her famous friends, including Chelsea Handler, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Orlando Bloom all cracking up in the comments. In the video that she posted on Instagram, the 41-year-old actress said, "Hey y'all. I've decided for my own mental health, to do more social media. I find that looking at my phone for eight and a half hours a day is helping me. And it's helping this pimple patch and this breakout" She later said, "And being in my 40s, it's actually really good for me to watch all of Love Island and all of The Bachelors. Whether in paradise or just normal mansions. She concluded by saying, "So you'll be seeing a lot more of me on social media just for my physical and mental wellbeing."
A few hours ago, Tom like many other celebrities, had given an explanation of why he believes social media is harmful to his own mental health. He wrote, "I have taken a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming, I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online, and ultimately, it's very detrimental to my mental state, so I decided to take a step back and delete the app."
The comedian and actor, Amy is now getting bashed online as she casually poked people who are leaving social media for mental health issues. An influencer commented, "I feel personally attacked." A user on Twitter wrote, "Amy Schumer parodies those who 'take breaks from social media' not funny to poke fun at people struggling …i used to find her funny .." Another user wrote, "Two cannibals were eating Amy Schumer. One says, 'Does this taste funny to you?' The other one goes, 'No'." "Great that everyone found the funny in @amyschumer’s mental health / social media parody video, but honestly. shut the f**k up. it’s hard enough out here. glad you’re mentally great, @amyschumer but just shut the f**k up. insensitive as hell," wrote another user. One user tweeted, "Is Amy Schumer’s video on IG in response/making fun of Tom Holland’s? Because it’s not funny."
