ORLANDO, FLORIDA: A mother of 16-year-old TikToker, Roselie Arritola, has been accused of pimping her daughter out. The family was also kicked out of the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando after Roselie’s followers complained to the hotel staff that she was being “sex-trafficked by her mom.”

Roselie, who goes under the name Jenny Popach on TikTok, is one of the platform’s most controversial stars. With over seven million followers, the teen's account is flooded with hypersexual posts --like the teen twerking in bikinis, lip-syncing to sexually explicit song lyrics, and body-rolling in hot pants -- that she and her mother called “shock-value content.” In an interview with Bloomberg, Maria said, "we loved it – we loved the attention." "I knew I'd be famous one day. I believe in destiny, and I believe in manifestation, and I believe Roselie is that," said the mother of six, who appears in the teen's videos once in a while.

Maria further states, "Every TikToker has their own niche. My daughter has one, and if she leans away from that she won't get the same amount of views. Hers is dancing but that gets a little boring after a while. And you can't be boring, you know what I mean? We post videos that contain shock value to attract viewers and attention, giving the audience something to talk about." Talking about the parents complaining about her parenting, she tells, "They know their husbands are perving at her."

As per DailyMail, Roselie's account was deactivated in January for two weeks after the platform received complaints about her videos and how it was violating its community guidelines. And then again in September, the account was shut down and reinstated, her videos were removed and the teen was blocked from posting for a few weeks, which cost them a loss of $8,000 in brand deals. Ulacia took her daughter to Los Angeles, standing outside TikTok headquarters, and begged a security guard for help restoring the account, states the outlet.

Hypersexualization of teens

This is one of many issues related to the safety of minors that TikTok is confronting that started in 2018. An ex-CEO of TikTok, Alex Zhu, said he felt "it was creepy for users to be fed clips of young girls under the age of 18 dancing provocatively and was horrified by their proliferation." Julie de Bailliencourt, TikTok's global head of product policy, says, "The challenge is ours is never over. There is no finish line," quotes Bloomberg.
