Broadcasters slammed for keeping cameras on rugby star as he CONVULSED on field after horror injury

During a tackle against rival Melbourne Storm, he took a hit to the head leaving him convulsing on pitch

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA: Sydney Roosters lock Victor Radley suffered a horrifying head injury during the team's 18-14 victory against the Melbourne Storm. Radley was knocked out cold while attempting to tackle Melbourne prop Jesse Bromwich with just over eight minutes remaining in the game at AAMI Park on Friday, August 26, but he put his head in the incorrect place.

When the Roosters star landed on Bromwich's hip, Radley seemed to be dead as he landed on the ground.

The 24-year-old seemed to be having convulsions in upsetting scenes as the Roosters medical team quickly got to him. After he was stretchered off the pitch by the medical personnel, an eerie quiet crept across AAMI Park as the Fox League cameras zoomed away from the incident.

The moment the Roosters forward left the field, the NRL Physio account tweeted, "Victor Radley showed signs of convulsing/seizuring after suffering a concussion there. Despite the graphic nature of the incident the presence of immediate convulsions is not associated with adverse results (via scans/recovery time) or risk of future seizures." 

Fox League reporter Lara Pitt saw that Radley seemed to recover fast and that he was conversing with medical professionals in the medical tent as he was being examined. After the game's final whistle, Radley was spotted on the field conversing and laughing with teammates, and consulting with Roosters coach Trent Robinson in the team's locker room.

However, the accident involving Radley, who took a significant knock against Newcastle in the season opener, may cause anxiety. In an effort to bring him recovered in time for the playoffs, the Roosters are anticipated to rest him for the season finale against the Rabbitohs.

Many spectators were upset by Radley's injury and in particular its brutal nature, including Fox League announcer Dan Ginnane. "Radley’s in trouble here. They’re going to have to stop play here. Oh dear, they are ugly pictures. These are disturbing scenes," he said. 

Others concurred, pointing out that the cameras could have quickly moved away from the incident. A user tweeted, "That was one of the most frightening things I've seen on a footy field. Thoughts with Victor Radley and his family." Another said, "Seeing Victor Radley convulsing after that head knock was tough viewing. Commentators have gone absolutely silent and ignored the obvious. I think the game needs to be better in situations like this, it’s going to happen again, let’s talk about it #NRL" Broadcaster Quentin Hull tweeted, "Been a long time since I’ve seen something on a footy field that has made me feel crook. Best thoughts to Victor Radley #NRLStormRoosters"
