'American Idol’: Dakota Hayden loses Top 24 spot to Dan Marshall, fans say 'wrong choice'
The showstoppers episode of ‘American Idol’ Season 20 proved to be one thrilling experience for the fans as country singers Dan Marshall and Dakota Hayden fought for the one last spot on Top 24. The latest episode aired on Monday, April 4 saw Dan performing ‘Hard Workin' Man’ by Brooks and Dunn with the band whereas, teen singer Dakota got the judges excited with his rendition of ‘Pretty Heart’ by Parker McCollum.
The two singers performed exceptionally well leaving Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie in a dilemma as to who to pick for the last spot in the Top 24. The trio then decided to plan a little sing-off on the spot before they made their final decision. Perry dubbed the two as better singers than her co-judge Bryan. While taking a moment from the two contestants, she also called out Dan’s attitude. After having a word amongst themselves, it was decided that 17-year-old Dakota had to go back home. This left social media users utterly disappointed.

And hats off to @dakotahaydenmusic for a wonderful performance. You are seriously the cream of the crop brother and it could have gone either way.” On the other hand, Dakota posted, “I may not have made it to the Top 24 but I've grown in ways I never thought possible! You literally haven't heard the last of me yet!”

I totally agreed with Katy. Dakota should have gone through over Dan. And she is right, Dan is going to self destruct because he is a cocky son if a bi**h.” The next one posted, “How do you kick off Dakota who was clearly the better singer because he is 17 that makes no sense then why even have the age of 17 be on the show.” One user posted, “I think Dakota was the better of the two in that duo. Come back next year.” And, another concluded, “Dakota Hayden had a more laid back, good ole boy approach. He sounds fresh and youthful.”
