‘American Idol' Season 20’: Who is Nicolina? Teen singer had also auditioned for season 16

‘American Idol’ entered its historic season 20 with a premiere episode aired on Sunday, February 27. Contestants namely Taylor Jalen Fagins, HunterGirl, and Danielle Finn were some of the singers who left the judges thoroughly impressed.  A singer named Nicolina too showed up at the auditions in front of the trio Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan to perform her rendition of ‘She Used To Be Mine’ by Sara Bareilles.
 
Nicolina, whose full name is Nicolina Bozzo, got the judges attention the second she hit the first note. Luke Bryan and Katy Perry seemed a bit emotional as they tried to hold back their tears. The 18-year-old crooner then quickly got a standing ovation from the judges as she got showered with praises. While speaking to her, Katy Perry stated how beautifully she poured her pain and sorrow into this song. Lionel Richie added that he was a fan now whereas, Luke Bryan concluded that she navigated everything wonderfully. Nicolina reportedly auditioned for season 16 of ‘American Idol’ but could not advance to the live shows. Her audition too was not aired on television.

Who is Nicolina?

Nicolina is a teen independent singer from Canada who dropped an EP In 2021 called ‘Moving On’. The young crooner has been singing ever since she was little and has been doing both original and cover songs. She graduated from St. Elizabeth Catholic High School’s regional arts vocal program and soon made an impressive fan following on social media platforms. On Instagram, Nicolina enjoys more than 20K followers whereas, on TikTok she has close to 211K followers with over three million likes. She shot to fame after she covered ‘You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch’ in December 2020.
 
When not singing, Nicolina also enjoys doing theatre. She reportedly played three roles in a performance of ‘Shrek The Musical’ by Cue The Lights Productions and The Institute For The Performing Arts. The talented singer is also active in community theater. She has performed in productions of Wizard Of Oz, High School Musical, Aladdin, Hairspray, Mamma Mia, A Killer Party and Grease, according to her Cue the Lights artist profile.



 



 

‘Nicolina’s audition is one of the single greatest stand-alone performances’

Social media users could not help but praise Nicolina’s audition. “Nicolina is a TALENT. I hope she lives in her truth as an alto but wow put that girl on a stage!”, said one user as another posted, “Nicolina’s “She Used To Be Mine” was fantastic, really took her time with dynamics and let the song breathe.” The next one stated, “Nicolina. Hands down.” As another tweeted, “This girl is from another Planet.” One user claimed she was, “The best so far.”
 
One user added, “JAW DROPPING PERFORMANCE a girl from TORONTO CANADA NICOLINA BOZZO impressed judges .  She could be the Next American IDOL Yes, im rooting for you, girl !!!  gives me goosebumps !!!” One added, “You know an audition is good when the judges are so in awe they let the person auditioning sing the entire song. Nicolina blew the judges away, her voice carries so much emotion.” And, another concluded, “Oh my god. I don’t even care if she doesn’t get to the end. Nicolina’s audition is one of the single greatest stand alone performances this show has seen in 20 seasons.
