‘American Idol’: Fans love Christian Guardino's voice, say he's 'not afraid to drop the jaw'

Episode two of ‘American Idol’ Season 20 proved to be a mixed bag of emotions as a few got a firm no from the judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan while some got lucky with the golden ticket to Hollywood. Christian Guardino, who is best known for earning the rare golden buzzer on ‘America’s Got Talent’ performed his rendition of ‘A Song For You’ by Donny Hathaway.
 
The 21-year-old crooner quickly left the judges in awe as soon as he touched a high range while performing the song. Lionel Richie rushed for a hug as soon as he finished his audition. Luke Bryan, who was equally impressed with Guardino, said that he was touched by the hand that made voices. Katy Perry too showered praises on the young lad saying that he had a voice of gold and a heart of gold. All the three judges then unanimously agreed to send Guardino to the next round.  Guardino later took to Instagram to share the big news with his fans and followers. He shared the winning the golden ticket moment and captioned the post, “What just happened tonight. I’m so honored to honored to be a part of this incredible season.”

The second episode of ‘American Idol’ season 20 was aired on ABC at 8 pm ET. The show is expected to air a total of18 episodes and might wrap up in late May. The auditions for the new season were held in Los Angeles, Austin, and Nashville. Online auditions too happened with virtual sessions. While the format of the show will remain the same, a new platinum ticket has been introduced that would allow the holders to skip the first day of Hollywood Week.
 
Social media users were taken aback by Guardino’s sheer ability to sing high-pitched songs with ease. “I felt this song to my core, and I've never heard it before. But this amazing Guy @christianguardino Bravo!! Hope to hear more”, said one user as another posted, “The absolute best. everyone else was just okay now compared to him.” One user posted, “Who doesn’t love a melt your heart Donny Hathaway song?  Phenomenal….  Christian. Simply phenomenal!”
 
Another shared, “Christian Guardino’s audition left me speechless. I see him getting to the Top 10.” One added, “Serious Elliott Yamin vibes from Christian Guardino. And that is high praise. And this is an excellent audition episode of #AmericanIdol” And, the next one concluded, “Christian Guardino is singing the heck out of Donny Hathaway. No nerves, no shyness, giving us a performance. He leaving that all on the stage. Nice riffs. Gets just a lil big bu pt not scared to drop that jaw. Powerful!”
