Impeachment is one word that can make anyone scared and it became a hot topic for discussion during the reign of Donald Trump. For the uninitiated, according to Article 2 of the US Constitution, “The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

The 45th President of the United States was impeached by the House of Representatives twice during his governance (2019 and 2021). Interestingly, he is not the only president in US history to get impeached. Presidents like Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton have been impeached in the past. But, not a lot of people know about them. So, FX has taken the responsibility to give people some history lessons with ‘American Crime Story: Impeachment’. This is the third part in the anthology series after 'The People vs. OJ Simpson' and 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace'.

Release date and how to watch

FX shared the first look of ‘American Crime Story: Impeachment’ on social media yesterday and revealed that the series will be premiering exclusively on FX on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. According to Futon Critic, the episodes will be airing weekly at 10 pm EST. and episodes will be available to stream the following day on Hulu's FX hub.

Plot

“The upcoming third season, subtitled 'Impeachment', is set to chronicle the impeachment of 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton for charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, based on another book written by Toobin entitled A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.”

Cast

The series will feature some of the best actors of this era. Primetime Emmy Award winner Sarah Paulson will be portraying the character of civil servant Linda Trapp, who exposed the scandal. Meanwhile, veteran actor Clive Owen is playing the 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton.

Paulson has worked with Ryan Murphy a lot and this is the newest project that these two have developed. The actress has worked in high-end projects such as ‘Mud’, ’12 Years A Slave’, ‘Carol’, ‘The Post’, Ocean’s 8’, ‘American Horror Story’, ‘Mrs. America’ and ‘Ratched’.

‘Lady Bird’ and ‘Booksmart’ fame Beanie Feldstein will star as Monica Lewinsky while Annaleigh Ashford will play civil servant Paula Jones, who sued President Clinton for sexual harassment. Edie Falco will portray Hillary Clinton.

Creators

The first two seasons were developed by Scott Alexander, Larry Karaszewski, and Tom Rob Smith. However, Ryan Murphy will act as the showrunner for the upcoming edition. He acquired the rights to the season's source material, Jeffrey Toobin's book, back in 2017. But, he had to wait because of Lewinsky. She had to give permission to move forward and eventually became one of the producers on the show.
