Family of Alpo Martinez’s dead business partner celebrates his fatal Harlem shooting

The 55-year-old NYC drug kingpin was murdered on Sunday, October 31, as he sat in his 2017 Dodge Ram car

HARLEM, NEW YORK: After notorious drug-dealer Alpo Martinez was shot dead on October 31, the family of his dead business partner celebrated. Martinez had killed his partner years ago and had called it "business". Martinez himself met an equally gruesome end as he was fatally shot at least five times on Sunday, at around 3.30 in the morning in Harlem, New York City, while he was sitting in his 2017 Dodge Ram car.

Three decades ago, the 55-year-old drug kingpin was arrested in Washington DC and charged with 14 counts of murder after he murdered his friend and business partner Richard Porter in January 1990. Martinez killed Porter because he thought he was cheating him in their business. In an interview with F.E.D.S magazine in 1991 that was quoted by the Times, Martinez said: “Rich lied to me about something there was no reason to lie about. I gave him the opportunity to tell me the truth not once, but twice. He didn’t die so I shot him in the head. It wasn't personal. It was business.”

In a tell-all documentary ‘ALPO: The Documentary’, Martinez added: “I was meeting Rich that night, he got into a van. Once he got in the van, I locked the doors. As I was pulling off, I was asking him ‘yo, Rich where did you get that coke from. that sht good was good’, because I wanted to make him comfortable. He’s like ‘I got it from my connect.’ From there I knew he was lying. So I turned to my little man [Big Head Gary], I gave him the nod … because he was short, so he could stand up in the van. Next thing you heard was two gunshots, bang bang. Richard slumped over, and it happened … I was very mad, I just killed a n*gga that I loved, a n*gga that I was making money with. A n*gga I called my brother.”

After Martinez was shot in the chest, chin, and arm before being declared dead at Harlem Hospital, Porter’s niece, known only as Lorell, told the New York Daily News, “We waited for a long time for this day to come and we are happy. That’s why we’re out here celebrating drinking champagne. Everybody’s reaction right now is celebrating. It’s a celebration for Harlem, period.”

The drug trafficker got out of jail in 2015 after being held behind ADX Florence prison in Colorado for around 30 years. However, since then he was living under witness protection after testifying against dealers. Near the incident scene, police discovered an ID in the name of Abraham Rodriguez. A high-ranking police source told The New York Post, “You were in the witness protection program because you testified against other drug dealers. You’d make a lot of enemies who have a score to settle. When you return to the same area, word will get out very fast. He’s back in the zone.”

No one has been arrested yet, but an insider said: “It seems pretty intentional when you shoot somebody five times.” Along with Porter’s family, some people on Twitter also seemed happy with Martinez’s death. A user tweeted, “The streets never forget you may have changed your life and been living a different lifestyle but you gotta pay for the shit you did in 88/89/90/91.” The second one wrote, “He really thought he was safe in Harlem. He’s been out of jail for a while, I didn’t think they were gonna kill him. He got too comfortable and died because of his own arrogance. He should have never returned to Harlem.”

A tweet read, “He got to comfortable in Harlem! I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t DC cats who got em knocked! He put a lot of DC cats behind the wall for life! He couldn’t have been that arrogant to think he wA gone live in New York City that long!” Another tweet added: “That’s how much impact Alpo had in the streets before he stained his name with snitching & the Rich Porter situation. Nas was rapping about him in ‘93. Crazy.”
