Fetty Wap faces life in prison, accused of running multi-million dollar drug ring
QUEENS, BOROUGHS OF NEW YORK CITY: Rapper Fetty Wap was supposed to perform at Rolling Loud New York on Thursday, October 28 but he never landed on stage as the cops got him first for federal drug charges. It is reported that the New Jersey native was arrested at CitiField Stadium in Queens for conspiring to distribute 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine across Long Island and New Jersey. An indictment named the rapper and five other defendants, including a New Jersey corrections officer.
The ‘Trap Queen’ hitmaker, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was arrested along with five other people. The 30-year-old hip-hop artist may face life imprisonment if gets convicted. Fetty Wap dropped his second album ‘The Butterfly Effect’ on Friday, October 22 after a gap of six years. The rapper had dedicated his latest project to his late 4-year-old daughter Lauren who died due to heart defect complications earlier this year.

Why was Fetty Wap arrested?
The documents obtained by TMZ revealed that cops secured the drugs on the West Coast and USPS vehicles with secret compartments were used to smuggle them to the East Coast. It was later revealed that the cops also got hold of $1.5 million in cash, 16 kilograms of cocaine, 2 kilograms of heroin, fentanyl pills, pistols, handguns, and a rifle. Fetty Wap is accused of having served as a “distributor” within this drug trafficking ring.
According to CNN, US Attorney Breon Peace stated, “As alleged, the defendants transported, distributed and sold more than 100 kilograms [220lb] of deadly and addictive drugs, including heroin and fentanyl, on Long Island, deliberately contributing to the opioid epidemic that has devastated our communities and taken too many lives. Speaking on the grave matter, Navarro Gray, a lawyer for Fetty Wap, said, “We pray that this is all a big misunderstanding. Hoping he gets released so we can clear things up expeditiously.” They are accused of transporting, distributing and selling more than 100 kg of drugs, including heroin and fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opiate, in Long Island, near New York, and in New Jersey in June 2019 to June 2020, according to a press release from the Ministry of Justice.
A rep for the Rolling Loud music festival shared that they were not aware of the rapper’s legal issues. “The fact that we arrested a successful rapper and a prison guard in connection with this trafficking shows just how despicable the drug trade has become,” commented Michael Driscoll, head of the FBI in New York. Speaking of his previous legal issues, Fetty Wap was arrested in 2019 on three counts of battery. In 2017, he was charged with DUI and in 2016, the rapper was arrested after a traffic stop. He later got $175,000 in cash to court to pay for the potential fines.
LA Times reports Fetty Wap pleaded not guilty to the federal drug charge on Oct 29. Defense attorney Elizabeth Macedonio entered the not guilty plea on his behalf and accepted his continued detention. “We are not making a bail application today,” Macedonio told US Magistrate Judge Steven Locke.
