ALLEN, TEXAS: Senator Ted Cruz is facing criticism following the deadly shoot at Allen Premium Outlets mall in Texas on Saturday, May 6, 2023, by suspect Mauricio Garcia, which took the lives of eight individuals and wounded eleven others. In the wake of the mass shooting, Cruz tweeted, "Heidi and I are praying for the families of the victims of the horrific mall shooting in Allen, Texas. We pray also for the broader Collin County community that’s in shock from this tragedy."

"My team is in contact with local officials, and I have offered whatever support is needed to do justice and help those in need. Thank you to the incredible law enforcement who put a stop to the monster who committed this act of evil," Cruz further tweeted.

After Cruz took to Twitter to send in prayers for the victims, he was brutally blasted online as many social media users asked him to take action against guns rather than just tweeting about the tragedy, One social media user wrote, “Actions speak louder than words, Mr Senator.”

'Spare us your prayers'

However, the tweet was quick to come under the radar. Shannon Watts, a founder of the gun safety group Moms Demand Action, wrote, "You helped arm him with guns, ammo, and tactical gear. He did exactly what you knew he’d do. Spare us your prayers and talk of justice for a gunman who is f**king dead. The only accountability we can hope for is that gun extremists like you are thrown into the ash heap of history."

Another took a dig at Cruz and said, "Yes this will definitely help them and their families and the many little kids whose futures were cut short." One more commented, "Your prayers amount to nothing Ted."

'You’re worse than useless'

Star Trek actor George Takei also slammed Cruz and wrote, “You’re worse than useless.” The bashing continued with another writing, "Hey Ted, regarding the whole prayer for shooting victims thing, do you get feedback like "thanks, those prayers, they really worked for us?" Maybe, given the way your prayers are helping folks, you should keep your prayers to yourself."

One more said, "Just like you did in Uvalde? I live in Collin County. You offer thoughts & prayers but vote against mental health funding & stricter gun laws. I own multiple firearms & I am calling for stricter gun laws. Texas is not the wild west anymore. Your thoughts & prayers mean nothing."

Many users also called Cruz out for repeating the same tweet for every mass shoot happening in Texas. An individual wrote, "'Heidi and I are praying for the families of the victims….' Aren’t you tired of saying the same thing every single time?" One more wrote, "The only thing @tedcruz has ever done to address mass shootings is responded with the same copypasta ass tweet every time. It’s so pathetic, and he should be mocked endlessly for it."
