Alicia Silverstone quotes the late Brittany Murphy as she throws 'Clueless' challenge

'Tell me you're a Clueless fan without telling me you're a Clueless fan,' the actress asked her followers

Alicia Silverstone has issued a challenge to her 8 million social media followers: "Tell me you're a Clueless fan without telling me you're a Clueless fan." The 45-year-old Daytime Emmy nominee added, "I'll start," before putting on a New York accent and saying: "You're a virgin who can't drive."

Alicia captioned her TikTok with a passage from Beverly Hills adolescent Cher Horowitz's own dialogue: "That was way harsh Tai." Silverstone was alluding to the moment in which her 'Clueless' character Cher is humiliated by the late Brittany Murphy's 'tragically unhip' new girl Tai Frasier.

The 1995 movie has become a cult classic, with fans quoting dialogues by beloved characters years after the movie came out. "I had to tell [director Amy Heckerling] just in case she didn't know that Brittany Murphy was the one that had to play the part, she was so good," the Cali blonde recounted at the Clueless Reunion Panel at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo in 2019.

"'You're a virgin who can't drive,' and I adore it. It's just one of my favourite scenes in the entire film. It's only that she scrunches up her face so well," she added. The 1995 cult classic rom-com, which was based on Jane Austen's 1815 book 'Emma' was a surprise blockbuster, grossing $56.6 million and receiving an 81 per cent Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Brittany died in 2009, at the age of 32, from pneumonia, which was complicated by iron-deficiency anaemia and various prescription medication abuse. Murphy's widower, Simon Monjack, was discovered dead at the same Hollywood Hills home five months later, suffering from acute pneumonia and severe anaemia. The Atlanta-born actress' mother Sharon, who was living with the couple at the time, was reported to be present in both incidents.

Cynthia Hill's two-part documentary 'What Happened, Brittany Murphy?', which broadcast on HBO Max on October 14 to mixed reviews, looked into the mystery surrounding Brittany's death.

Starting on June 4 for her first TikTok alongside 10-year-old son Bear Blu, Alicia and her social media manager Jake Updegraff routinely create Clueless-themed material to engage fans.

The mother-son combo reenacted the short scenario where Cher pushed an overeager male student off of her and exclaimed, 'As if!'

Following the breakdown of their decade-long marriage in 2018, Silverstone and ex-husband Christopher Jarecki have shared custody of Bear.

According to People, the 44-year-old musician was ordered to pay the 'Masters of the Universe: Revelation' star $12K/month in spousal support until January 31, 2024. Alex Hardcastle's comedy 'Senior Year', starring Rebel Wilson as a 37-year-old high schooler coming up from a 20-year coma, is one of Alicia's four projects due out next year.
