US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was present at Capitol Hill when pro-Trump rioters stormed the building on January 6. Appearing on MSNBC's 'The Rachel Maddow Show', the congresswoman told the host about the horror she felt when rioters outnumbered and overpowered the security and entered the building. She told Maddow she personally encountered a "traumatizing" event that led her to believe she would not be alive by the end of the horrifying day. "As for myself, I had a pretty traumatizing event happen to me. I do not know if I can even disclose the full details of that event due to security concerns but I can tell you that I had a very close encounter where I thought I was going to die," Ocasio-Cortez said. "And you have all of those thoughts at the end of your life and all of these thoughts come rushing to you and that is what happened to a lot of us on Wednesday and I did not know I was going to make it to the end of that day alive and not in a general sense but in a very very specific sense," she told Maddow.

Speaking of the frightful day, Ocasio-Cortez said, "One of the things that was so scary that day not just for myself but many other members and even for people at home watching on television these acts of great heroism even within Capitol police and within the congressional staff, etc that were juxtaposed with acts of great betrayal by people in those same ranks." She added, "And what is so scary in a situation like that is that you don't know even if a person is in uniform whether they are there to hurt or to help."

Pro-Trump supporters storm the U.S. Capitol following a rally with President Donald Trump on January 6, 2021 in Washington, DC. Trump supporters gathered in the nation's capital today to protest the ratification of President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College victory over President Trump in the 2020 election.

Judging by the reactions of the people who watched the interview, a lot of them hate Ocasio-Cortez for certain comments that she made. "This woman is off her rocker," wrote a user on Twitter. While another called her a Marxist and commented, "What kind of inflammatory rhetoric from a Marxist would you expect?" Still angry from the time she advocated defunding the police in the wake of George Floyd's death, a user wrote, "If I’m a cop, I’ve got to think twice about protecting her. She’s done nothing but trash them for months. She. Is. Insane." While another compared her to President Donald Trump and commented, "She is as divisive as trump." While another wrote, "AOC is just as much to blame for stirring up riots looting as Trump is for the shit that went down at the capitol." Another user tweeted, "Well AOC does a great job of inciting BLM to burn down cities so she knows bad people."

Multiple reports have stated that several Republican members of Congress allegedly gave a guided tour of the Capitol to many of those who stormed the building, a day before the riots. This is believed to be one of the reasons how the rioters made their way to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's out-of-the-way office as well as Jim Clyburn's office that had an unmarked door, TMZ reported.
