Alexander Jay: Homeless man throws nurse, 62, down the stairs at Seattle light rail station
Alexander Jay, a homeless man with a long criminal record, was seen in security footage pushing Kim Hayes, a 62-year-old nurse, down a flight of concrete steps at Seattle light rail station earlier this month and then he followed up the unprovoked attack by flinging her even further down the steps and allegedly stamping on her head.
On March 2, Hayes, 62, was on her way to work at Harborview Medical Center when the terrible attack occurred near downtown at the Chinatown-International District station. According to King County prosecutors' charging document, Jay, 40, was charged with second-degree assault in connection with the attack, as reported by KIRO-TV.

The woman proceeded up the steps after exiting a train at the Chinatown-International District station on March 2. Surveillance video shows Jay sprinting up the escalator next to her and greeting her at the top. He then throws the victim backwards down the concrete stairs. Jay pursues the woman down the stairs, grabs her, and throws her down the second set of steps as she comes to a halt on the middle level.
The woman grabs a railing to keep from falling as far as she did the previous time, but Jay appears to come after her again, stomping on her skull. According to KIRO, Jay then walks back up the steps and exits the station, as a security guard rushes over to assist the woman, who has three broken ribs and a shattered collarbone.
According to police, Jay and his victim were in the same light rail vehicle before to the incident but had no interaction. Hayes, on the other hand, got a good look at his face, which features a distinctive cross tattoo on his left cheek, and quickly identified him as the attacker.
As per the Tri-City Herald, authorities found Jay the next day about a half-mile from the attack site. Jay is also being probed in connection with a stabbing that occurred a short time after the assault on the nurse at a bus station near the intersection of 12th Avenue South and South Jackson Street.
KIRO reported Jay was arrested on a Department of Corrections warrant. Jay has a long history of crimes in Washington, including burglary, theft, selling stolen items, and domestic violence, according to court documents obtained by KIRO. Jay had previous convictions in California for theft, drug possession, auto theft, and burglary, according to the station, and Washington courts have issued more than 15 bench warrants for him for failing to appear in court, prompting the state to request $150,000 bail in this case.
