'60 Days In': Inmate Ashley makes bra out of rags after being denied underwear for days while 2 inmates leave
The dangerous, troubling and outrageous side of being inside one of the worst jails in the country is starting to take a toll on the volunteer inmates of '60 Days In'.
The Etowah County Detention Center in Alabama is one of the scariest places in America with rampant contrabands in the jails and doors that don't lock. And, unlike any other season of this reality series two people have already tapped out by the second episode and a third one is on the way.
The condition of the jail is terrible for sure, but it was the female pod that really brought out the terrifying nature of this prison.
Among the female undercover inmates, cop Ashley initially appeared to be taking the time inside in stride. When her request for underwear didn't come through for days and she received a blood-stained "rag" for a blanket, she decided to tear up the seam and make a DIY bra.
Unable to shower for three days because she didn't have a change of clothes, Ashley decides to give the only pair of clothes she has away to the laundry when the corrections officer promised to be back with another one. But, she does not show up.
Ashley is left with no clothes and no way to go out. Her cellmate Rita gives her an extra shirt but she still has no pants and that seems to be the last straw for the police officer. You can see the female corrections officer just sitting at her desk, with no intention of coming back to help.
Ashley wonders what happens to women during their period. "Do I free bleed all the way to my ankles?" she asks Rita.
In another part of the jail, Shanese, a teacher for at-risk youth finds herself unable to eat anything because of her severe gluten allergy. The inmates are supposed to be given fruits and vegetables, but to her horror, there are only cheese, bread and chicken fingers. She remains hungry for the entire day and is ready to snap.
In the men's pod, undercover inmate Matt, a former marine and a superfan of the show along with Jacob, who worked as a corrections officer left the show for good this week after Matt couldn't get his cover story straight with an inmate and Jacob appeared to have a panic attack.
The Marine was bawling his eyes out by the end of his time after witnessing male inmates steal razors when the officers weren't looking. This episode truly chronicles the treatment of inmates in jails. It remains to be seen which inmate out of the bunch makes it to the finale.
'60 Days In' airs at 9/8c on Thursdays on A&E.
