'59th ACM Awards 2024': Fans wish they could 'mute' Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's 'bad' performance

FRISCO, TEXAS: On May 16, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton performed 'Purple Irises' at the 2024 ACM Awards, which was attended by a star-studded audience. However, it wasn't long before people rushed to social media to criticize the couple's brutal performance. 

The two swapped lines — while Gwen was costumed as a purple iris in a glittering top fashioned like the flower and matching slacks — and then joined together to sing the love chorus.

Gwen shined in a pair of dazzling purple leggings and a purple ribboned blouse, a clear tribute to her song. Blake kept his cool with an all-black jacket, shirt, and pants.

However, not everyone was fan of their performance as many X users wrote, "I'm glad Avril and Nate sound good singing together because my ears can't handle another Blake and Gwen." Another person chimed in, "I still hate Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani singing together. Like, it just doesn't SOUND good. Forget the drama. It's just bad."

One fan noted, "Blake Shelton hasn't been the same since screwing up what he had with Miranda Lambert. Gwen Stefani is a great talent, but is not a country singer. Just saying what everyone's thinking. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk. Again." A fourth user further inquired, "Does Blake Shelton only exclusively make music w Gwen Stefani now oooorrrr?"

One fan also quipped, "Watching this year's CMA out of boredom, and my main thought so far is that, while "Wrangers" is far FAR away from my favorite Miranda Lambert song, her out-singing & out-performing Blake & Gwen will never NOT be utterly hilarious." Another user sighed, "Just listened to Blake and Gwen sing Purple Irises. Wish I would have had it muted. Would’ve only been half as bad."

Gwen Stefan and Blake Shelton have collaborated on multiple songs 

'Purple Irises' isn't the couple's first musical collaboration. The new duet comes just days after Blake released his six-track Love Language EP, which includes previous Gwen collaborations 'Nobody But You' and 'Happy Anywhere', as well as 'God Gave Me You', 'Sangria', 'Honey Bee', and 'A Guy With a Girl'. In 2017, the duo also recorded the seasonal song 'You Make It Feel Like Christmas'.

When did Gwen Stefan and Blake Shelton meet?

Blake and Gwen met on the set of 'The Voice', where they were both coaches for the reality singing competition series. They got married in 2021 and have been together ever since.
